Are virgin blocking website access
Hello this is my first post on the forum, please dont find it spammy, it is'nt meant like that.
I have a uk based server with a few websites hosted on it. Last night i noticed that the .co.uk sites were not showing, however the dot coms were.
My logging software shows that virgin customers have not visited a busy site all day, which is unusual.
I will not drop links and will not even show a completed website, but could i ask a favour to confirm that this example is not viewable through a virgin connection.
h*tp://chinesewebsite.co.uk
Obviously the * will need replacing for a t
Thanks for any help.
Ps i have a virgin 20 meg and i cant see it for editing etc

Re: Are virgin blocking website access
The only time VM would block a website is probably one of two things
1# It's listed in certain lists (for example certain peasophile sites/images
2# The site/route has been involved in a botnet/spam/DOS attack and the system has suspended that route to protect the rest of the network

I'm a BT user (well..... from this location I am) and can't see the site either, it would appear to be a DNS issue.....

Re: Are virgin blocking website access
Easiest way of telling is just to ping the FQDN, if it fails before it finds the IP then it's a DNS issue, if it finds the IP then fails it's a routing or website issue

Re: Are virgin blocking website access
I think it could be a DNS issue and when pinging your nameservers they don't ping

Re: Are virgin blocking website access
Visible from work (over a dedicated leased line), not visible from home (over VM). I can't believe I opened up the works VPN just to look see, on my day off. :P
Edit: I just tried accessing it from one of our servers in Germany, its unreachable from there too. A bit more investigation:
nslookup chinesewebsite.co.uk results in a bunch of servfails.
dig chinesewebsite.co.uk A returns no valid results.
host chinesewebsite.co.uk returns no valid results.
Conclusions: Check your nameservers. Im guessing somethings got an error, and its slowly propogating across all the other nameservers.

That says it all mate. Thanks.
I have just given my hosting providers a rocket for the bum steer. They swore blind that it was my isp. I hate those help chat folks who probably have th feet up on the desk and blame evryone and everything but themselves.
I have had the nameservers re-configured (god knows what threw em off) and hope to be back online in a few hours.
Many many thanks for you guys time.
