They're not likely to investigate what goes on on the other side of the gateway. It's beyond VM's responsibility.

Re: Latency jump WoW - 2nd March 19:50

lawl, so telia could just say the same thing, and nothing would happen?

This crap has happened before and its always been a Virgin Media problem.

Dont worry im saving up a report to submit to www.cisas.org.uk because im sick of Virgin Media shaping traffic to save money.

Re: Latency jump WoW - 2nd March 19:50

It may well turn out to be a VM problem - that depends on your saved up evidence. But what you'be posted shows clearly that it's not a VM problem.

Perhaps you have data that shows it might be a VM problem.

What I posted shows that either there a physical line fault between virgin media and telia, or virgin media has a routing issue at hop 6 to telia, or that telia has a problem at thier first router hop from VM.

Now look at youve said, your implying that what I have shown is that the problem is 100% obvious that its NOT virgin media issue.

In my long standing experience with both virgin media and telia as a wow subscriber, the problem has always been virgin media.

I bet virgin media are up to thier old games of throttling network traffic to telia to save money.

Please look at this link, this has happened before and it was a VM problem.

Re: Latency jump WoW - 2nd March 19:50

Then do a Pathping instead, which tells you where packets are lost. If they're lost at the addressed node, then it can't be a VM problem.

If it has always turned out to be a VM problem, then tell us what the problem actually was and what were the pathping or tracert stats? We've only got what you post to go on and you've posted no evidence that it's a VM fault.

Your last sentence is ridiculous.

Re: Latency jump WoW - 2nd March 19:50

http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/12...sites-wow.html

Fault is VM pulling too much traffic through the Interconnect, which cannot be attributed to Telia as it's VM's routing and traffic engineering that decide how much of the internet, how many prefixes they are reaching via Telia, Telia simply advertise everything that is in the agreement with VM.

The traceroute doesn't exonerate VM of blame and a pathping would be of no help it would show the same as the trace presented more prettily.

Tracing route to wow-europe.com [80.239.186.22]

7 10 ms 11 ms 11 ms telc-ic-1-as0-0.network.virginmedia.net [62.253.185.74]
8 32 ms 11 ms 8 ms ldn-b2-link.telia.net [213.248.100.97]

Load lower, spikes lower.

Going straight to the Telia node on a trace it takes an entirely different path which pings better presumably due to avoiding the congested link:

Tracing route to ldn-b2-link.telia.net [213.248.100.97]

7 23 ms 21 ms 83 ms tcl3-ic-1-ae0-0.network.virginmedia.net [212.43.163.198]
8 19 ms 19 ms 19 ms ldn-b2-link.telia.net [213.248.93.69]
9 19 ms 18 ms 20 ms ldn-bb1-link.telia.net [80.91.250.225]
10 15 ms 15 ms 15 ms ldn-b2-link.telia.net [213.248.100.97]

VM just need to sort their traffic engineering out, or alternatively pay Telia more money for transit. It is a transit circuit so very much VM's responsibility to upgrade it, they probably get nasty-o-grams from Telia every so often complaining about overutilisation on it.

Re: Latency jump WoW - 2nd March 19:50

hi just to say my latency has been high lately in wow peeking from 300-900 but ok last night ....im in rg22 ....but as seph as said its hard to get either side to admit the blame...but i did contact customer complaints once before when this happened and i was put to there higher tech department who sorted it but they did have loads on complaints from wow players..if no joy refuse to pay them if they dont sort it as its there job to contact telia not you as you pay them for a service ,its not your fault there too tight to pay for good transfers across networks ...bt customers are not having probs so i would say virgin at fault as it was last time for me ..

In all seriousness, I wouldn't withold payment - you will just end up lost in their faceless debt recovery system, and quite possibly with your services cut off as well.

The ultimate sanction is to take your business elsewhere, but if you really do want to stick with cable, consider instead whether you have grounds to complain to trading standards over a service that is not as described.

Re: Latency jump WoW - 2nd March 19:50

Hi, one thing to seriously check if its a server problem or transit problem, ive tried this and noticed some odd things

Im on nagrand and i got around 100m-250ms when actialyl casting and fighting.
lately on evenings (8-9pm) im getting lag (can tell when trying to cast Rejuvination).

So i goto another server which is not on the same battlegroup (Quel Thalas, Ghostlands)..

make a new lvl 1 char, then try using spells (druid so i use healing touch) and it casts instantly, showing that its indeed nagrand or the battlegroup causing the lag.

so it cannot be the transit carrier unless they are specifally aiming at specific servers just to annoy you (which if they got found out they would be in severe problems - EDIT: adding to the point that there is a lot of traffic to specific servers and they trottling to save money ? before you all put in they CANNOT do it, they could, with recession and lots of things in the news, its is a *possilbity* however unlikely). They are supposed to trottle to allow us gamers to be able to play, but also remeber VM are also expanding networks and issues at different sides of the chain(s) and only the VM tech boys who deal with direct wiring (at point of cabling etc) know what is going on, the rest of VM usually doesnt know jack s*** what the rest is sometimes doing (call centres is one thing). Im sure ill get some constructive and unconstritive comments on my edit

Try this and see if it makes a difference, also try after a server reset, i find it usually de-lags.

Just something ive noticed.

Dave.

Different battlegroups are hosted in different locations, check this out.

3 datacentres in Paris, 2 in Frankfurt, 1 each in Hamburg, Dusseldorf and Stockholm.

You can check the routes with traceroutes:

The data centers include these IP ranges:
Dusseldorf: 62.67.44.x, 62.67.45.x
Frankfurt: 80.239.232.x, 80.239.233.x
Frankfurt 2: 80.239.148.x, 80.239.149.x
Hamburg: 213.248.122.x, 213.248.123.x
Paris: 80.239.178.x, 80.239.179.x
Paris 2: 80.239.181.x
Paris 3: 80.239.184.x, 80.239.185.x

The Dusseldorf datacentre uses Level3, all the others appear to use Telia.

There are for sure lag issues due to the game, but VM do have a long and distinguished history of overloading their bandwidth to Telia as well.
