Youtube HD

Hi,

I was having issues streaming videos from YT when I was on 20MB, so I upgraded to 50MB, but its still the same. D/L tests show near on full d/l speed but if I try to watch anything 480/720 definition it stutters and stalls.
Does VM "manage" streaming video or is YT just S***?

Cheers,

Re: Youtube HD

It's probably just Youtube.
I can't reliably stream youtube vids either, regardless if they're HD or not.
I think it depends on what server is streaming the video, as some seem to load ok, but others seem to require constant buffering

Same thing here. But on my friends O2 connection it works fine, and on my O2 and Three mobile broadband it works fine too.

Re: Youtube HD

So you couldnt watch Youtube vids so you upgraded to 50meg!? That's dedicated, 20Meg is plenty (if not over the top) for any such streaming video, if its not smooth then it's not your end, for example although its broadcast not quite like the internet, a Sky HD channel takes about 11MBit

Re: Youtube HD

Try going through VM's proxy (webcache.virginmedia.com - port 8080).
It's the only way I can watch YouTube videos or make most web sites actually load with images these days.

Firefox: tools/option/advanced/network/settings/manual proxy confuguration
Internet Explorer: tools/internet options/connections/Lan settings/use a proxy server

Not everything works though so be prepared to switch back and forth if need be.

Re: Youtube HD

I used to have this problem before, can't even remember if i was with virgin back then but what was actually happening was the flash player youtube uses was stalling and pausing after about 30 seconds, the data was still being downloaded but since the player froze it couldn't play any more. I think eventually i deleted all traces of Flash from the computer and reinstalled it to fix it.
