Question Upload Speed for 50Mb when it being upgraded

Hi,

I think I read somewhere that 50Mb users may get better upload speed, once they bonded? the upload channel or something like that.

Is there any news on this?

Re: Upload Speed for 50Mb when it being upgraded

It should happen first half of next year I imagine. This is not dependent on bonding that was assumed to be the case by a few people, 5 and 10Mbps are doable without bonding though some areas may need it which will potentially slow release to them.

No news on the other tiers at all.

There have been no official announcements regarding upgrades at all the only announcement has been that 10Mbps upstreams would be trialled but again given that VM like to be faster than BT and BT are making an 'issue' out of having 10Mbps upstream on their FTTC service it's a fair bet that VM will want to keep their speed advantage on one level or another, it's their main marketing tool on internet side of the business.

Shouldn't be too long I imagine before we see a user saying 'Oh my goodness I have more upstream than usual'

Re: Upload Speed for 50Mb when it being upgraded

I got an email on Friday 13th. Nov inviting me to be randomly selected from volunteers for a speed trial.

It doesn't say but I assume this will be for 10mb upload trials. If it is for 100mb download I would be surprised.

The terms and conditions link is: http://www.virginmedia.com/covandhud...orktrialtandc/

So this is intended for Coventry and Huddersfield only it seems.

Here is the text of the email.

"Hello,

At Virgin Media, we’re always looking for new ways to improve your service. That’s why we’re about to start testing some great changes to the Broadband service in your area – and we’d love you to be involved.

**What’s in it for me?**
Take part in the trial and you’ll have a 1 in 10 chance of winning some great prizes, such as a shiny new laptop. You’ll also get to experience the cutting edge in UK broadband services and give us feedback on how you found the changes.

**What’s the trial about?**
If you have Virgin Media broadband then you will already appreciate that speed is important and for us it’s even more important. We have a series of new “behind the scenes” technologies that we want to try out in your area to see how we can improve the experience for all our customers.

**How does the trial work?**
It’s simple. We might send you a new piece of Broadband kit for you to install at home and ask you to let us know how you get on. If you have any problems, our support team will be on standby to help. You then just carry on using your broadband service and for the duration of the trial we’ll ask you to complete 3 short online surveys to help us check that the service changes are performing as they should. It really is that easy.

We’ll need you to be able to take part in the surveys for at least 7 weeks between the dates of 15th November and 28th February.

**How do I volunteer to take part in the trial?** All you need to do is click on the link below. We’ll then randomly pick 150 people to take part and email them with more details on what to do next by November 15th 2009.

Volunteer to be part of the trial here:

http://allyours.virginmedia.com/forms/quality.html

Well today is the 15th. November. I haven't had a return email. So I guess I haven't been selected.

I do not think that has anything to do with a speed trial as it mentions Quality of Service.

Are you sure? Key phrases include:-

Well you will be able to tell us if you receive any kit what it is then.

The trial is to end February 2010 rather short for a speed trial.

I received kit for the Samknows quality trial that was a stripped out router to send results to Samknows.

Clearly, I'm not going to budge you on this one. If by some slim chance I do get selected I will surely let you all know what happens.

It has an abbreviated version of Coventry and Huddersfield network trial there. Anyone remember the announcement that speeds would be trialled in the North East and Midlands? And yes I know Huddersfield isn't exactly North East, but why would that link be different from the generic Samknows performance trial.

Doesn't it seem rather odd that the URL indicates Coventry and Huddersfield network trial?

Coincidence? I think not.
