The technology was trialled to see if the 10mbps was achiveable. And it was. I'm not going in to any more details I value my job

Re: Upload Speed for 50Mb when it being upgraded

Oh you mean on BT's FTTC?

Yeah it is achievable but distance limited - VDSL2 can actually pump out 100Mbit symmetrical if close enough to the cabinet but there are some quite strict power masks that have to be applied to VDSL in the UK which further reduce capacity.

Certainly the 10Mbps is doable, indeed 20Mbps can be easily done even with the masking if close enough to cabinet.

Fair enough however I think it is reasonable to expect it to be 10Mb to counter BT's recent offering.

I have strong doubts. BT offer 2Mbps as standard with 10Mbps as an extra upgrade, I suspect VM will offer perhaps 5 as standard with 10 as an extra cost upgrade but I'm far from optimistic of an upgrade to 50/10.

Re: Upload Speed for 50Mb when it being upgraded

Well 5 would do me as it still beats BT maybe they will do 5 and then say 10 or 20? The streeet cab on our road is right outside my house. it's just under 5 meters from my computer. So I hope to have the choice of |VM or BT when BT get's here and the competition hots up.

Re: Upload Speed for 50Mb when it being upgraded

In America they seem to have much higher upload speeds, a friend has just moved house and got Verizon 15 down 5 up.
While I'm happy with my 50 Meg down 1.6 Up is a bit slow. 5 would be good, 10 would be better.
Is there any way of telling if my area is ex-telewest or NTL or something different? I only moved to Woking a couple of years ago so no idea what it was before.

I do not believe so.. Mine is still "Max Traffic Rate :1750000 bps" but I can't speak for your area.
What does it say at http://192.168.100.1/CmOpConfig.asp ?

Rapdishare has never been accurate for me on upload.[COLOR="Silver"]

You'll find that Verizon's "FiOS" service is fibre to the house. Whilst the last segment of the VM HFC network is still a coaxial cable to your door.

If you are in Coventry or Huddersfield you could be right. They are test areas for 5Mb and 10Mb uploads. I am on 5Mb and get up to 600kbps on torrent uploads.

Your config stats will confirm.

Re: Upload Speed for 50Mb when it being upgraded

Hi guys,

Newbie here and hope its alright to post on this topic.

I have had the 50mb service for the last few months but recently my upload speed has dropped to around 600kbps. I used to get over 1.5mbps. I have now had 2 visits and each time I phoned them up they said the voltage was too high at the modem. Today the engineer added an attenuator to lower the voltage but the upload speed it still rubbish.

I was given the usual guff that the posible 1.5mbps speed is only "up to" to which I replied is ****!! Surely to god I should be able to get a better speed than this???!!! I am so sick of being given the run-around!!

My download speed normally comes back at about 50000kbps.

Any advice appreciated.

TIA, Rich
