I haven't a clue. If the hardware is up to it in most fibre areas then there will nothing holding them back this year from 5Mb upload anyway. Broadbandings would know something about that.
As for 10Mb ( 1.2MB approx) I don't know what the technical reasons would be for holding back, at least where 50 Mb download is operating.

The hardware isn't up to it in a lot of areas hence the problems, and the technical reasons are simply the amount of capacity they can offer. Your 5Mbps is coming out of a total 18Mbps of usable capacity, they increase it to 10Mbps it only takes two of you uploading at once to cause a fair few problems.

I am sure you have answered this question before somewhere.
How much work has to be done nationally on fibre hardware to ensure smooth effective rollouts of 5Mb and 10 Mb uploads?

Heh. In my area it just can't be done without hardware replacement, this goes for some other areas, especially ex-Telewest ones where they were left to rot and pushed until they bled.
Some areas will handle them no problem, some will need some persuasion.
The advent of upstream bonding, which is coming soon, will help. Those on non-bonding compatible modems are going to need some work doing.
Either way there is no way in hell that the rollouts will be smooth, nor will they be fast. Patience is the way forward I'm afraid.
I would actually recommend a look at OneWayInternet - http://onewayinternet.blogspot.com/2...ience-bit.html
Blimey I wrote that 15 months ago
I am in an old build network, and the upstream part is full up already so no room to even do what was done in Coventry, and even if they could it would probably overpower the optics and cause failure. All old build will need to be upgraded.
Other network it will be a very individual upgrade from area to area.

Re: Upload Speed for 50Mb when it being upgraded
I asked about it today and I was told there's something in the pipeline soon but the guy on the customer relations team couldn't tell me as it was inside information which is fair enough.

They haven't themselves finalised how / where / when yet and customer relations are going to be among the last to find out as per usual
That's the only answer really - there is no schedule yet, there is no set guide to what each tier will get. Still very much in trial stage.

Inside information isn't given to customer relations trust me on that one.

Re: Upload Speed for 50Mb when it being upgraded
Now that BT are rolling out 40mbit with 10 mbit up, are VM more likely to bring out at least a 10mbit upload rate with the 50mbit connections, or is that not possible at the moment?

Trials were announced as being up to 10Mbps as a spoiler for BT's announcements. What will actually be rolled out is quite different and I really wouldn't hold your breath about getting a 10Mbps upload on 50Mbit, at least as a free upgrade anyway. BT charge extra for it.

Re: Upload Speed for 50Mb when it being upgraded
I wouldn't mind paying extra for 10mbit upload rate so long as it is not too extortionate.

Re: Upload Speed for 50Mb when it being upgraded
Bearing in mind it's not up to 10mbps it is 10mbps. I know that for a fact through various things.

I am hoping the follwing on BT's website will **** them off to doing something about it.
and the UK’s fastest upstream speeds of up to 10Mb/s*, allowing users to get more than ever before from the internet.
*Faster than Virgin's current 50Mb/s product

Hi,
What do you mean by this?
We know that 10Mbps upstream has been trialled in Huddersfield but don't know yet what the product layout will be - Virgin don't even know what the products will be yet
I suspect 10Mbps will be an option, to keep up with BT naturally, I have serious doubts about it being unlimited though. It will need a fair bit of work to get 10Mbps reliably out of the network in some places.

Re: Upload Speed for 50Mb when it being upgraded
I mean that I have seen someone pushing 10.7MB a second up on a trial setup.
I don't think it should be unlimited it's the main money burner for an ISP.
