You can always try the connection and downgrade back if the service is bad.

That would be OK if it was "Try before you buy" but what about the install costs for a service that turned out to be way below promises? (I'm in a polite mood!)

AFAIK you would get the costs credited back to the account best asking BenMCR as he works for Virgin Media.

Area by area as per other upgrades.

Re: Upload Speed for 50Mb when it being upgraded

Putting this topic back into limelight the trials of faster upstreams have now, as expected, progressed to Coventry.

You did, it just took a while
Does that give us any further insight into the progress of a nationwide deployment or am I reading something into this that isn't there, like why does Coventry get all the breaks?

Coventry hasn't gotten any breaks so you are certainly reading something into this that isn't there

It doesn't really give a huge amount of insight I'm afraid though it does let them see how the extra strain on the upstream network holds up in all-digital and analogue and digital areas.

As a note Coventry CMTS-11 has had 5Mbps upstream running on it for a little while now. I guess roughbeast was the first person to post about it.

BT are starting their marketing push with emphasis on upload speed. Virgins response doesn't mention upload. Come on VM!

Yep as I mentioned in the blog thusfar VM are persuing this with all the rapidity of a chloroformed slug and all the enthusiasm of Peter Stringfellow's latest 'acquisition'.

I am unsure how the trials are proceeding however they remain fairly small in scope.

Sadly due to the amount of work BT have to do they still have some breathing room and I know that it's a work in progress but how 'in progress' and how 'progressed' I don't know.

Re: Upload Speed for 50Mb when it being upgraded

It's a shame there hasn't been any news from VM on the upload speeds
An upload speed of 10mb or more, would be awesome on the 50mb product
Still doesn't comapre with other countries like Sweden/France etc, but it'll be a start.

Re: Upload Speed for 50Mb when it being upgraded

Compares pretty well with France's cable network. 100Mbit down, 5Mbit up.

I got news for you. I'm in one of the test areas. The other is Huddersfield.

Although I haven't been told formally my connection has been upgraded, at least for now, to 5Mb upload.

Here's my modem operation config.

Cable Modem Operation Configuration
General Configuration
Network Access : Allowed
Maximum Number of CPEs : 1
Baseline Privacy : Enabled
DOCSIS Mode : DOCSIS 3.0
Config File : sfd;kfoA,.iyewrkldJK
Primary Downstream Service Flow
SFID : 1665
Max Traffic Rate : 53000000 bps
Max Traffic Burst : 3044 bytes
Min Traffic Rate : 0 bps
Primary Upstream Service Flow
SFID : 1664
Max Traffic Rate : 5120000 bps *
Max Traffic Burst : 8160 bytes
Min Traffic Rate : 0 bps
Max Concatenated Burst : 8160 bytes
Scheduling Type : Best Effort

I understand that 10Mb is also being tested locally with some chosen individuals. I would guess that roll out will be as quick as VM can make it. BT are extending fibre and will be offering 40Mb down, with a potential of 100Mb, and 10 Mb up. VM will be wanting to keep ahead of the game.

Re: Upload Speed for 50Mb when it being upgraded

Not quite Beast, the 100Mbit is confined to fibre to the home only, which is thusfar confined to a single new build in Kent, Ebbsfleet, with two trial areas, Highams Park and Milton Keynes, being constructed and no other deployment announced.

Just pinged a couple of people to see what I can find.

How long do you reckon until we see the start of the rollout? Are we likely to see the start of rollout before midway though the year?
