Surely the two go hand in hand. What's the point of the performance without it being stable?
Minor speed fluctuations can be accepted but look at some of the stability problems already posted here.

Re: Upload Speed for 50Mb when it being upgraded
If the performance is high enough some variation is acceptable. Check out the Comhem and UPC Poland links I posted where they have performance ranges on the services.
If VM upgraded us from 1.75 to a range of 5 - 10Mbit I'd be pretty cheery
Performance upgrades actually resolve some issues too - network improvements that are required for the higher upstreams will improve things across the board.

Do you think that they will at least upgrade to 5mbit? 2.5mbit would be a bit of a cop out.

Me too. No problems with speed or faults.
These forums are for folk with problems. We get a distorted picture of reality here.
NB This test was done whilst Azureus and V-stuff were running. Still good eh?
Here's another for good measure.

I think I should've used the word reliable rather than stable. I only go by the threads on the forum as I'm only on 20Mb with no probs.

Re: Upload Speed for 50Mb when it being upgraded
I would be happy with a 5Mb upload but 1.6Mb upload does me fine for the moment.

Re: Upload Speed for 50Mb when it being upgraded
Still irritates me that I went from 2 years of 2.1Mbps usable upstream delivered over 1.5km of copper wires to 768kbps on Virgin's 'fibre optic' broadband going to 1.75Mbit on their 'next generation fibre optic' broadband.
I remember a poster from here who was a VM employee saying how it would not release with 1.5Mbit and there would be bonding trials now. He wasn't entirely wrong there, but...
I am getting some encouraging noises from VM which I'll relay more on as I get it.

If they implemented 5Mb upstream it would persuede me to upgrade.
I still thenk Be have the right idea with their 20Mb service ie trade off a couple of Mb down for up to 2.5 Mb up. I was on it for a couple of years qand had no probs reaching consistant 16Mb down and 2.4Mb up. Pity I live too far from the exchange since I moved. Unfortunate VM can't or won't do the same.

Re: Upload Speed for 50Mb when it being upgraded
Pip im sure when they upgrade the 50mb upstream they will also do the 20mb to as they will be more inline with a lot of the ADSL Packages as most now offer upto 1.3mb upstream.
I can see Virgin doing 5mb on 50mb and 1.5mb on 20mb.

Re: Upload Speed for 50Mb when it being upgraded
Broadbandings at a guess how is the upgrade going to happen? When they do bring out the faster upload rates, would it be possible to bring it out nationally all in one go, or is it likely to be brought out regionally?

I'm on a different BSR but not far away (Barry) and when I had my 20Mb service installed chatted withthe engineer (contract) about the 50Mb service and was told they were having all sorts of probs. Obviously I'll check they've been sorted first.
