Sorry, of course bsfd near Cambridge is Bishop's Stortford.
There's nothing good about it not being the newest one - that confirms that you aren't on a 50M unit.

Think there is six UBR's in Stortford, do they not just upgrade the current UBR or do you get moved to a new one ie 7

Re: Virgin's 50Mb broadband arriving December 15?
i think it is a case of them adding additional new equipment to the existing UBR

Nope, they are new CMTS - uBR is a Cisco name for a CMTS, but they are all really CMTS.
The existing kit is getting along a bit and isn't capable of channel bonding at the moment. The DOCSIS 3 stuff is all brand new chassis.

I believe it just means that for some reason the CMTS decided to change the upload channel parameters, like frequency or modulation. It happens some times when there is a problem with the connection or for some other reason best known to VM.

Can anyone tell me what router and what wireless stick you get with 50mb, I ordered it today I remember seeing what router you get, but I can't seem to find the page for it.

Re: Virgin's 50Mb broadband arriving December 15?
No sign of 50 mb testers at the DSL zone, speed tester. Still plenty testing their 20480 kbps sync. Does 50 mb really exist?

Re: Virgin's 50Mb broadband arriving December 15?
OK, so I'm no n00b, but have very little idea when it comes to the details of VM's network. Customer-side, fine; network-side, no chance.
Anyway, I'm an XL customer on an oversubscribed UBR in Newcastle (NE2), and looking to do something about it. CS recommend I downgrade, but that's really not what I'm after - I don't want to pay less for a poor service, I want a good service full stop. My question (which has probably been asked a million times before but I can't find an answer) is this - if I somehow persuade retentions to let me upgrade the 20Mbps portion of my Triple XL package to 50Mbps for at least five or so months (could be more, but moving in July and might not be a Virgin area), with no activation fee and no extended contract, will I still have the same problems at peak times as I do now (speeds as low as a few hundred Kbps, pings all over the place, packet loss of 10-20%)?

Not going to happen. All 50Mbit upgrades are a new 12 month contract and costs £80 to setup/install

Probably not, but I've got nothing to lose by trying. Given that we specifically didn't have a phone line installed when we moved in (students) because we went with VM, and given that we're now tied into getting our internet from VM (12 month contract), I'm going to make one hell of a fuss.

Re: Virgin's 50Mb broadband arriving December 15?
And if you do, you will probably get some reduction of your existing service, but you will not get 50Mbit without the contract or set up fees (or the increased monthly rental)
