probably 25mb/0.8mb upload from the current 20mb/0.75mb upload :P
I love the fact their new doscis3 network is far better and has far more network capacity and yet they will be restricting downloads on the 50mb connections lol!
They are only bothered about how many GB you use per day, they should add a pay as you go tier for those who use very little bandwidth like Be do and have the current 50mb tier unlimited, that way they would get LOADS of customers.

I am still interested in the justification for charging a credit crunch busting £80, just to get wired up and installed.

great stuff - when I go to the availability postcode checker it says I don't have cable services. Strange since I've had cable installed and been with NTL/Virgin for the past 4 years

Yep, especially for existing customers who already are activated and already have frequencies set up, surely wouldnt take the engineer more than 5mins to sort the upgrade. Thats over 1.5 months worth of broadband cost, that should be included in the crazy £52/month cost.

As I posted somewhere else, probably so they could claim a lower monthly cost, and still make the money they want over the life of the contract

Anyone who actually opts for that is stupid. Pay £52 just for broadband, or pay £46 with a phone line as well

and they hadn't got a clue, passed me to sales customer services and they hadn't got a clue either, couldn't even tell me how much it would cost (not in my area yet) if i was to switch over
so, another fruitful exchange with VM

Its a bit confusing to be honest, I'm on XL + Phone M (unlimited weekend calls to landline) and I'm paying approx. £25.33 (according to Virgin Media anyway).
XXL + Phone M = £35, but you have to have a Virgin phone line.
I have a Virgin phone line, so if I upgrade to XXL package, will it only cost £35?
or £35 + £11 = £46 per month, because its a new contract?

Re: Virgin's 50Mb broadband arriving December 15?
No-one will pay more than the standard price of £35 XXL + £11 Phone M, which is £46. (£15 more than the current bundle for XL BB + Phone M @ £31)
If however you are paying a special price for XL BB + Phone M, you just pay the £15 increase (plus the £80 install/activation fee)
So if you are on £25.33, you would pay £40.33 for XXL

Still £5 cheaper, but then they're hoping to make money from the phone calls It must work though otherwise they wouldn;t do this...

from a tax rip*** i mean a business advantage POV, i thought they were still classed as a seperate entity under NTL/TW brand name though, so perhaps not ?

Sorry.. Not working down to your level of granularity
They are separate from a Product Perspective, but share platform etc so it depends on how granular they have gone with regards to how they migrate 20Mb/s customers.. i.e. If it is an Ambit 256 it could be bus or res, so unless they can differentiate lower than that it may move.

Re: Virgin's 50Mb broadband arriving December 15?
So does this use the same UBR infrastructure or not cos if it does then your ****ing money into the wind as most UBRs cannot deliver 10mb let alone 20mb in the evenings.

Re: Virgin's 50Mb broadband arriving December 15?
i guess it comes down to the given UBRs errata filled or fixed firmware thats installed at the time.....
incase any new readers wondering, "a" didnt really need stating , infact it didnt need to exist until the new and improved "b" came along and all the Docsis3 bonded kit used that new improved version as their base.
so if its docsis2.0a its the old chipset kit only, and if its docsis2.0b its one channel of the new chipset kit that the PR/sales teams are calling Docsis3 or the silly "wideband" they cant seem to let go of, even though its not the real deal DS3, but rather a pre-DS3 bonded setup...
but you know this after reading the above now

Re: Virgin's 50Mb broadband arriving December 15?
The post code checker is no good as i live in a complex of two storey flat all having
same post code as me , and for quite a few including the one above me it says they
can have 50 meg as they are in a analog area , yet the other come up the
the same as mine . i entered various address to try this out.

yep, the same infrastructure, but new cards and new frequences to run them on, as "B"' is a new and improved "A" so its fully backward compatable and can run these old DS2.0a CM chipsets at their intended DS2 "A" spec fine, they are using DS1 only until they are moved over OC.
and to top it off the new DS2.0B UBR cards are the cheapest ever right now, their faster, and have more ports (the bit your CM connects to at the other end) per card for the same or lower price as the old DS2.0a cards had, so they get far better cost savings all round, so they have even less excuse to skimp on the reseging for lower shared UBR ratios so improving your protential bandwidth etc...
we wont see the cash savings OC but we might see over subbing reduced, and so improve the throughput seen..... we can hope anyway if they dont fritter away to savings to much elswere....... the executive cristmas bonuses are due this week i think though ......

There is no reason then why VM should have any kind of traffic management at all. It was only brought in because the current network couldn't cope with demand. Having one or two frequencies for your entire broadband service was ridiculous.
But, as always there's a sting in the tail and I would expect the application management to be implemented then to quell the illegal downloading.
We'll all be able to download what we want then at any time of the day at maximum speed, just not the good stuff for free.

Hooray for us folks on the bottom tier No more limits on anything

Only number I've used are freephone and 150, plenty of free minutes on the mobile - I hope they don't get a penny more out of me!
I love bargains, if you know how to deal with Virgin Media, then you'll win all the time, but then again, I've been with then for many wonderful years - so that helps a bit too..
The Upgrade option is available on my Self Care page, but I'd rather not click on it even if it says its not available on the next page, incase they start charging me for XXL, when its not available here, but I'm ready to go for it, once its available - I still don't forgive Virgin Media for the £80 installation and activation fees, unless they put the prices down next year
