Virgin's 50Mb broadband arriving December 15? - Page 25

This was suppose to be the most positive and exciting news today for their widely expected fastest broadband speed, I was ready to be bowled over with what was on offer, yet here we are, most customers can't get it, those who can get it, don't want it because of the sketchy information coming out about pricing, lack of bundle offers and now news of activation fees and install fees. It shouldn't have to be the case that we are still today, we are having to rely on associates posting snippets of information here and there and all of it unofficial.

It's Â£15 on top of any existing bundle with XL broadband except Triple XL, XL Plus and VIP where it is an extra Â£10 a month.

The Â£30 install and Â£50 activation fee applies to everyone who orders it, whether they are new or existing customers.

The upload speed will be 1.5Mbit

Everyone gets the Wireless N router (new and existing customers signing up to XXL)

maybe Virgin should relabel their VIP packages as just 'P' since we are obviously not important enough to get the upgrade for free (I think Â£86 a month is more than enough)

Wireless N Router seems to be available to all existing customers too signing upto XXL however the router does not belong to you, it is classed as hired virgin media equipment and will probably require returning if disconnecting / downgrading.

It was mentioned above by another associate that it was only new customers who are getting this for free...

Is this information @ VirginMedia's website? (Checking)

Does it mention activation and install fees? Nothing was said about this in the press release.

Virgin Media has launched a product today - their fastest yet and I am getting a irritating headache trying to work out just what exactly is *officially* on offer.

then how can we use the 50mb

The amount of money and time invested in the network to capacitate 50meg and beyond, on top of this because it is a premium service and your recieving a wireless n router AND adaptor, id say the Â£50.00 activation fee is justified.

It is currently VM's flagship product on level of service beyond that of almost any UK residential provider - you need to take that into consideration also.

you dont work for virgin media do you lol

you talk about money and time being invested into the network, yet we have people suffering STM

you talk about price being justified, isnt the 50 quid a month enough for them, compared to BE bb what is the difference, you get 24mb bb better upload, no connection fee, free router and its HALF PRICE

It's half the price because it's half the download speed. You also only get a G router with Be, that is rented and it costs Â£24.99 for activation

In fact, with a virgin phone, XXL broadband is exactly double the price of Be broadband (Â£11 + Â£35 instead of Â£11 + Â£17.50)

nope, activation is free until february, so people are going to be paying 25 pounds more for an extra 25mb, and surely the extra upload is worth much more than the weak upload provided by xxl?

You mean an extra Â£17.50 for at least an extra 25Mbit. If I was to swap from Be to VM XXL I would get an extra 35Mbit for that price

EDIT: and my upload would be exactly the same at 1.5Mbit

I do work for virgin media.

With the upgrades to the network it was stated existing 10mb and 20mb customers will be transfered to the docsis3 technology, as said hopefully freeing up capacity and enabling a better experience for everyone.

If you want better upload and 24 meg download (adsl) then take it, if you want 50meg then pay the extra. Its like comparing VM's 2mb and 20mb assuming they should be around the same price. They are two different levels of service. Yes upload is better on be's 24meg, but this product has just been released, its worth considering the possibility of changes in the future.

With regards to router, the router is rented from both VM and Be.

(VM's lower tier you purchase the router)

EDIT: People suffer on download caps on other providers do they not?
