Yea, Orange FTTH, standard is 100/10 but for 10 euro more you can get 100/100.

I was thinking about getting it, but this has put me off.
So they going to charge £80, put STM on it eventually, new 12 month contract and give rubbish upload.
Think I will stick with my 20mb

Can I phone and ask to change to that bundle? (I assume it means itds another 12 month contract) or will there say is it for new customers only?
If I am allowed to change, will I be able to upgrade to 50mbit if I want to when its available in my area.

I for one dont want it i feel sickened enough with quality as is and am thinking of going the other path and downgrading most of the time i dont see any where near 20mb so 50 would be a bit laughable in these times high upstream would sell more then high download, but so many other people have said the same thing to no avail.

50MB is on a different signal type on the network so will not be effected by network overuse in some areas. Eventually 20MB will be moving to that also to garauntee the speeds.
You are getting what you are paying for as VM advertise their Broadband at 'Up To'

Re: Virgin's 50Mb broadband arriving December 15?
lol, VM advertise their broadband as fibre optic, fibre backbone yes, fibre to door no, hence misleading so i wouldnt pay any attention to vm's advertising, nevermind their throttling from around 10am till midnight even though we didnt agree to that when we signed up, they shouldnt be able to change conditions without our permission.
As for the hacking of modems well yeah im sure in a few months it will be done as with almost everything high tech they get hacked, well except for the ps3.

Re: Virgin's 50Mb broadband arriving December 15?
Anyone had the feeling after today's news we've had a carrot being dangled in front of our faces before all this was announced?...
To summarise so far:-
- Not being rolled out everywhere yet.
- £35 with a Phone line (£46 per month inclusive of phone line).
- £51 if taken as a single product.
- £50 activation Fee. £30 Install Fee. (New customers only?)
- No confirmation of upload speeds, after all these years - customers interest is also based on the upload speeds.
- Virgin Media are still using the terminology of unlimited downloads and saying no traffic management will be in place at launch, but an acceptable user policy still applies, this is a contradictory usage aspect if I ever saw one ...
- New customers only to get the router free with 50Mb.

Re: Virgin's 50Mb broadband arriving December 15?
Wasn't there a post saying that 1.5mbit upload doesnt technically suffice for a 50mbit download?

Re: Virgin's 50Mb broadband arriving December 15?
The price is expensive if you take into consideration the recession now and into the next twelve months or so and the fact that the government is trying to bring in a law by the back door which will try to stop illegal downloads and unless people only want the High Def can't see many people wanting 50 meg and getting traffic shaped.

I was under the impression the activation fee and install fee is for all customers due to techs have to check all signal levels and channels

Re: Virgin's 50Mb broadband arriving December 15?
Well they announced 50 mb today. Roll out will take 6 months I hear. I have registered my interest today. Virgin say they will reply with information about when my area of Coventry is to be upgraded.

It would not be unreasonable to expect *at least* what the package below yours is getting or there is no point to having different tiers of service.
Clearly if the standard of service is below the tier below the one you're paying for (which customers are currently experiencing) then you are not getting "what you're paying for", even with the service described as "upto".

This is the case, all customers new & existing must pay the £50.00 activation fee.
Existing and also New customers must pay the £30.00 Installation fee unless VM arrange promotional campaigns on reduced installation charges.
