Read where i said purposely, there is difference between a max line cap and an artifically put in place one.

Re: Virgin's 50Mb broadband arriving December 15?

A cap means something is put in place to block or stop use of a service. STM just means your connection is a bit slower for a few hours. Totally different!

I am just annoyed that I can't get 50MB till April.

From the FAQ:

Where is 50Mb broadband available?

We're busy rolling out up to 50Mb broadband across our fibre optic network, so it won't be available everywhere straight away. This month though, we'll be able to sign up around 1.3 million homes in parts of Scotland, the Midlands and South London. The rest of the 12.6 million UK homes covered by our fibre optic network will be ready for 50Mb by next summer. To find out if your street is ready now, just fill in the postcode checker and we'll tell you!

ben , did you tell them to make sure they put in the 11n kit to sweeten the first payment deal, how long before the it becomes limited stock and you have to pay for it as a temp thing like the old antiquated 11g did

Re: Virgin's 50Mb broadband arriving December 15?

So let me get this striaght... I currently have

XL Broadband 37.00
Phone 11.00
Talk Evening and Weekends and Evenings 3.45
Discount - 4.00 .

Once 50mbit is launched in my area I can get it for
Phone 11.00
XXL Broadband for 35.00

Which will be more or less what I pay now. What is the catch? What will Phone and XL Broadband reduce too?

I did not get blocked, that would mean my service was interupted and wasn't functioning however I can still browse the web, download and upload so it wasn't blocked.

Check who I am employed by in my sig. I am not getting ripped off, also I have only been STM'd once and even then it didn't bother me too much.

I do not think STM will be added to the 50MB until it is 100% rolled out across the UK and then they will have probably studied the service to see its effects on the network before considering how many Gigs of data you can recieve before the STM would kick in.

No as the current bundle for Phone M and BB XL has a £16 discount in it rather than the £4 one you currently get.

So if you took out BB XL and TEW today it would be £34.45, whereas BB XXL and TEW will be £49.45

I was aiming to help indicate why WE do it, hence the title of the thread. Sure, if you want general info, go look it up. You want specifically why WE as an ISP do it, I gave you it... simple as.

You do it because you oversubscribe and dont upgrade the network.

Any network that is properly maintained and upgraded would not need STM.

And extremely heavy users would be controlled properly, rather than capping anyone who dares use their connection at full capacity for more than 20minutes at a time.

Corporate Bull at its finest.

Yes, well, that's not fair

Correct, STM is to be rolled out as soon as rollout of 50Mbit is complete.
