Re: 2MB increasing to 10MB after Xmas?
Just got word back from VM - The official line is that '2Mb going to 10Mb' is to do with the 12 days of christmas promotion. 2Mb customers will be upped to 10Mb FREE for one month only.

Re: 2MB increasing to 10MB after Xmas?
Hmm...I have to say I'm surprised this hasn't leaked out earlier as there's currently lots of activity by people in Networks who are working on the business case to upgrade 2Mb tier to 10Mb. My understanding is this was a permanent upgrade as the backbone upgrades are happening over the first half of 2009. I can't speak for the board but I wouldn't have thought the business case would fly if it was just for one month only. Haven't a clue how they will market it, though, to ensure they don't get everyone on L downgrading to M and hence losing revenue, I guess they have some cunning improvement to L tier in mind.

Re: 2MB increasing to 10MB after Xmas?
As it stands the top three tiers are going to be roughly double each other (10, 20 and 50Mb). If anything the 2Mb tier would probably only have a doubling to either 4Mb or 5Mb, which would then make all tiers double the previous one.
Anything else risks them eating into the next tiers customer base and upgrade incentive
---------- Post added at 22:52 ---------- Previous post was at 22:47 ----------
They also don't have the capacticy to take all 2Mb customer to 10Mbit, whatever other work they may be doing for relief work and the DOCSIS 3 network
Thirdly, if you look at the investor briefing which broadly covers the focus for next year, there is nothing at to suggest they want to move away from the four tiers they will have once 50Mb launches
---------- Post added at 22:54 ---------- Previous post was at 22:52 ----------
Fourthly 50Mbit won't complete rollout until Q2 2009 AFAIK, and THEN they will have to move all the 20Mbit customers over before they do anything with either the M or L tiers

Re: 2MB increasing to 10MB after Xmas?
But then the upgrade programme would be called '2-4 upgrade' not '2-10 upgrade' and we wouldn't be feeding back figures for the business case for the resource we are going to need to complete the programme
There's always the chance someone can't do arithmetic, I suppose, and got their 4s and 10s mixed up, but everyone I know who has been told has raised an eyebrow and said "you sure you don't mean 2-4?" to be told, "no, its 2-10"

Even if they are even considering it, you would be looking at Q3/Q4 2009 before they would go anywhere NEAR it

The infrastructure is creaking at the moment, this will be a disaster.

It is not happening. It is rumour and speculation.

Not gonna happen.
Believe what you wish, but 2 is going to 4Mbit end of next year.
Upload speeds will finally align too.
