Yes, my multiplication above was wrong, but then you are also misreading the words you have bolded. They use a capital letter for K, which denotest that they mean bytes, not bits.
A 56 kilobit modem would be expected to achieve a speed of about 7 kilobytes per second.

So when they say 512 is that 0.5Mb (512k) ?
if it is then what is 80?
about 11 dial up modems.
if you were on the 8Mb that would be about 1168 dial up modems.
they take 1157 dial up modems off you, which makes it just a little bit faster then the olden days dial up modem

Capital K doesn't mean anything for what's after it, you're thinking of a capital or small B, one meaning bits the other bytes.
They wrote bits, and meant bits. Check Thinkbroadband's Virgin Media ADSL forum for more information from customers who've been hit by the higher strength throttling and are reporting 10kB/s (kiloBytes) download speeds - some even lower.

80kbps is 80kbps - are you referring to 80kBps?
Back to the point, top 2% are considerably throttled, as low as 80kbit/s for a week, top 5% (I think) in any one hour during peak times go to 512kbit until midnight.
I have no idea what those thresholds would be to break either of those boundaries, even approximately. http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk...ml#post1552513 suggests that 5.9GB in a week is likely within the top 5%.

Yes but sometimes someone could have posted in the time it took yours to appear. so then the post above yours wouldn't be the one you were replying to.
Nevermind. carry on

Re: Have you been STMd incorrectly?
So what's the difference between having your modem 'moderated' and STM then?..

Nothing. moderated is just a posh word for it being STMd.

Re: Have you been STMd incorrectly?
I guess it sounds better than "throttled"...
The whole network is a joke these days. In the evenings I can't even watch YouTube videos, STM'ed or not.

Interesting. Whenever I use that speed test it's always around this..
Tue, 14 Oct 2008 06:52:58 GMT
Test 1: 1024K took 1248 ms = 820.5 KB/sec, approx 6761 Kbps, 6.6 Mbps
Test 2: 1024K took 1406 ms = 728.3 KB/sec, approx 6001 Kbps, 5.86 Mbps
Test 3: 1024K took 1369 ms = 748 KB/sec, approx 6164 Kbps, 6.02 Mbps
Test 4: 2048K took 2828 ms = 724.2 KB/sec, approx 5967 Kbps, 5.83 Mbps
Overall Average Speed = approx 6223 Kbps, 6.08 Mbps
I find this speed test gives me the lowest results out of them all

Re: Have you been STMd incorrectly?
I have only been stm'd once out of hours however when I am stm'd my speed is fixed and stays at 5Mb
