With wireless is it password protected to stop othrs using my BB? Is this easy to deal with on Netgear router?
My BB modem is Ambit NTL Home 120 I take it that will work with Netgear? Its a silver one.
Also the netgear router will not interfere with my TV digisender will it?

Have a read of some of the articles on VM's Wireless Help page to get a better idea of how wireless networking works?
Unless somebody posts to the contrary, I'd reckon that your Ambit 120 will be capable of handling 10Mb/s and that it's your (pretty old) Belkin (non-wireless) router that's causing the problems. And if that's not right, it'll only mean getting a new (free) modem from VM.
(I'm not sure on what frequencies your TV digisender operates but I've only ever heard of wifi conflicting with DECT phones.)

Re: 10mb Upgrade. How can I tell ?
Cheers.
Anyone else know if my ambit 120 is OK with 10MB and netgear above router?
Also can the wireless part be turned off, if all I am doing at first is connecting PC and 360 with wires? As I don't need the wireless part yet.
Thanks again

I would call Tech Support and ask about getting your modem replaced as it is getting tired and struggle at 10Mb, a lot of agents will replace these modems automatically, I would.
For help with your TV or Phone and for Broadband Technical Support:
Call Product Support/Faults on 151 from your Virgin Media Phone. It's absolutely free.
Or call 0845 454 1111 from any other phone line.

Re: 10mb Upgrade. How can I tell ?
Hornet...you sound even more confused now than when you first posted...!!!
1). Call 151 & ask them if your modem is suitable for 10mb Broadband. I suspect that it will struggle, but they should be able to tell you. The modem will be free anyway so you have nothing to lose. You say that its showing 10mb when the pc is connected straight into the modem so it might be ok after all.
2). Also ask them about the possibility of a free wireless router. (Some people have been lucky enough to get one...!!!) If they wont give you one for free you could pay for the Virgin Media one. I think it costs about £40 which is a fairly reasonable price. I gather that they are modified so that they will only work on Virgin Media but thats not really an issue for you.
3). If you would rather just buy your own router then the Netgear one you have been mentioning will be fine with the equipment you have & also any wireless laptop that you might buy in the future. There are two types of wireless router..."ADSL" for use with broadband over normal telephone lines, and "DSL" for use on cable services. They are different so you have to ensure you buy the right one. Obviously you want a "DSL" model as your on cable.
5). Your XBox360 & your desk-top pc will plug into the ethernet ports on the router the same as they are on your current router, using the same cables. If you buy a new wireless laptop that will connect to the wireless connection on the router. The router will have a security system that you can set-up to stop other people using your connection. Its fairly easy to do so don't worry. The router will have a settings page that you access simply by entering 192.168.0.1 in your internet browser. From here you can set-up the security. You can also disable the wireless signal until you buy a laptop if that is what you want to do.

Re: 10mb Upgrade. How can I tell ?
Go to start > run (if on Vista press and hold windows key and hit r)
Type cmd
ipconfig
The address to access the router software is your gateway.

Re: 10mb Upgrade. How can I tell ?
Had to do it through www.routerlogin.com
Latest problem is it says I should update firmware to 1.9, so I do this as per instructions but when I go to upload it to router by selecting the downloaded 1.9 file it says you are running 1.8 and wish to upgrade to the same 1.8.
No mention of the actual 1.9 I have downloaded and attempting to do.
Any ideas?
Cheers

Thanks again to all who helped, everything working fine.
The only thing I can't understand is why it won't update the firmware as described above. Anyone else tried this on a netgear WGR614?
Cheers

open a browser page and put into the address bar 192.168.1.1 which will take you directly into the configuration pages of the router and just follow the links.

The VirginMedia supplied Netgear router cannot be flashed as it has embedded VirginMedia firmware in it.

Re: 10mb Upgrade. How can I tell ?
Not sure about the firmware problem as i use a Virgin Media router, although if it is running well then i wouldn't particularly worry about it.
Have you set your security to WPA(2)? You can get away with just setting your security and leaving it, as long as people cannot get into your system.
Another way you could do it is connect everything up then stop it broadcasting the SSID, then others outside then network wont even see the network

What version of the 614 is it? There isn't a 1.8 or 1.9 firmware version quoted anywhere amongst these...

Re: 10mb Upgrade. How can I tell ?
Thats weird. I have the V9 one and the software is that July 1.18 one, but when the router loads up and check for updates it finds 1.19, downloads it and then when I choose install it calls it 1.18 and say you already have 1.18.
This is the only problem so far. I even got my PSP browser to go online wireless.
I signed up to Playstation network got a user name and p/word, but when I try it on Knillzone it says not recognised. Could this be failing because its an Asia PSP, as thats the only thing I can think of?
Thanks

Just to check are these all right now :-
Downstream Receive Power Level : 4.44 dBmv
Downstream SNR : 35.39 dB
Upstream Transmit Power Level : 49.00 dBmv
What should the above be?
My speed test
UP 483
DOWN 9865
PING 137 - What is this meant to be?
Cheers

Your power levels are within normal operational parameters for your connection and you are on 10Mb.
