VM Wireless Router Issue
I had my free wireless router from Virgin Media today, and all is working well except for one thing....
If i run a speed test im getting at max 8mb, max downloads of 700k but if i use a download manager im getting the full 2.3mb/s.
Im wondering if upgrading the firmware would do anything, if so does anyone know where i can get a firmware upgrade for the VM netgear WRG614 V9.

Re: VM Wireless Router Issue
The latest Virgin Netgear Routers are the VM netgear WRG614 V9 just replaced the V6 ( recognizable by having a yellow WAN port ) and all have embedded Virgin Firmware in them making them unable to be flashed with new firmware.

Here's hoping that the updates to the firmware are purely cosmetic...

Re: VM Wireless Router Issue
Will VM be producing Firmware upgrades for this?
Btw i also have another small problem. When using Peer to Peer or FTP the router resets itself after a few mins all the time, about every 4-6 mins it resets. I have port forwarding set and tested the ports and all is well but still happens.
It doesnt happen on large downloads from net, i just downloaded SP 3 from XP from Microsoft at 2.19mb/s and took just 2mins and 24 secs so thats right.

None that we are aware of, if you want to be able to flash your router buy it from Amazon or elsewhere.

Re: VM Wireless Router Issue
So why are Virgin Media giving away routers that are causing problems for their users and unable to fix it? Kind of defeats the object?

Re: VM Wireless Router Issue
just had a replacement router from Virgin as they claimed it wasnt the fact their firmware is rubbish and limits the connections on the router but it was a faulty router. Low and behold the new router does the same thing!

That's nothing unusual. You'll often find you can't max out your 20mb with a single download simply because the server won't supply that much bandwidth, instead it takes something like a download manager that opens multiple connections to get full speeds. It's why speed tests and single downloads tend not to be a good measure of your bandwidth, more often than not multiple concurrent downloads are the only real way to test your connection.
