Exclamation 20Meg Connection Very Slow

I just upgraded to the 20Meg broadband package last Wednesday. My average speed was just over 3MB per second, which has now dropped to a weedy 300KB per second since Thursday. Want I want to know is how I can get the full potential from my connection, which, from my point of view, should be atleast 10-12Meg download.

I use a Belkin G+ router which shouldn't really limit my speeds.

I am in the Woking, Surrey area.

Below is my current modem's configuration:

Re: 20Meg Connection Very Slow

can you connect your modem directly to the PC without the router and let us know the speeds then ? Also please post your power levels from the modem config page. please browse to http://192.168.100.1 and use the username root and password root. please do not post your modem serial or mac address.

Will have a look at them and see if there are any issues !

Re: 20Meg Connection Very Slow

first thing i would try is running it without the router, see if it has any affect, if it returns to normal u know it is the router. If the router is the problem then i would make sure to flash it to the latest firmware and try again.

Re: 20Meg Connection Very Slow

your downstream power level is pretty high i would imagine that may be causing issues.

Either ring VM or post on the support newsgroup on the VM news servers !

You will need a tech visit to sort out the levels.

p.s. Please remove your mac address and serial number from your original post you should not share that info with anyone.

Re: 20Meg Connection Very Slow

On the phone to VM as we speak. Tried changing the full speed/ duplex mode to 100mps/ full duplex to no avail. I have instead just ordered a new modem, which should hopefully solve the problem.

Re: 20Meg Connection Very Slow

I doubt a new modem will cure the downstream power

Re: 20Meg Connection Very Slow

The modem has finally arrived! I set it all up, registered it with Virgin and everything was great; 6mb per second download speeds, but then after the first day, back to very slow rates of just about 150kb/s. What else can I do?

Cable Modem Downstream
Downstream Lock : Locked
Downstream Channel Id : 0
Downstream Frequency : 402750000 Hz
Downstream Modulation : QAM256
Downstream Symbol Rate : 5360.537 Ksym/sec
Downstream Interleave Depth : taps32Increment4
Downstream Receive Power Level : 12.2 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 40.8 dB

Re: 20Meg Connection Very Slow

You were fobbed off by being sent a modem.
Call back, your downstream power is borderline.
