10 mb to 20 mb upgrade?

Hi guys,

was just wondering on your opinion, is to worth for £4 extra a month to upgrade to 20 mb?

we have 4 computers: all do surfing and emails
two do light music downloading
one does online gaming (5 hours a week?)
video downloading (10 gb a month)

would you reccommend it ? and would you say i would notice the difference?

Re: 10 mb to 20 mb upgrade?

wow it's only an extra 4 pound. Hmm might enquire about this myself as I do lots of downloading and uploading too. Wonder what the upload speed will be..

Ah just had a thought, what about my router? ((netgear WGT624)). It's a wireless one and i think it's max air speed is around 10mb too just like my VM cable. So I'd have to connect wired to enjoy the speed or buy a new router and i've only just got this! lol

Re: 10 mb to 20 mb upgrade?

thanks for that. Is there any chance i can ask you to do the test again in the morning or during the day time. I'm just wondering if it'll be faster at anytime other than an evening you see..

Thanks again :-)

Max upload is 768Kbps. It will never go higher than that.

Upload Speed: 705 kbps (88.1 KB/sec )

thats while downloading 3 files over mirc already, vm are good but the smt is not good u end up on a 5meg connection most the time even though they deliver the full 20megs

Re: 10 mb to 20 mb upgrade?

heres mine just upgraded to 20mb, pefect id say, always has been even with 2mb, 4mb,10mb. Only downside is the upload is too slow compared to other providers. Otherwise I love Virgin Media.

Re: 10 mb to 20 mb upgrade?

plz don't misunderstand me as i've always been with telewest/vm and their service is top notch. NEVER had troubles and always been happy. Though i'd love better upload speeds of course.. I'm on 10mb and this is 0.5mb upload - so i'm always curious about other providers offering better upstream technologies :-)

Re: 10 mb to 20 mb upgrade?

yh i know, I was on 10mb until yesterday, i purely upgraded to 20mb just for that extra bit of upload bandwidth. For 10mb upload should be 1mb, for 20mb upload should be 2.5, but hey ho. When I see other people from around europe posting their speed results with their upload, it makes me cringe. this one guy from holland had 25mb download and 50mb upload...jeez, if the dutch can do it, why cant the british, lousy stinking
