Upload Speed: 650 kbps (81.3 KB/sec )
Firefox
Download Speed: 15277 kbps (1909.6 KB/sec )
Upload Speed: 730 kbps (91.3 KB/sec )
Although as usual the tests seem to give random results everytime, they tend to average 4meg apart on the download speed. eg, the next test could give 15meg for IE7, but only 11meg for Firefox.

Just means the modem hasn't synched with NTP server, syncs time from VM as part of modem registration process.

Motorolas are renowned for this in their config logs no matter if your modem is on 10 seconds or 100 days these logs always appear in motorola modem logs it is nothing to do with synchronization.

Those on a full 20meg, do you get 4 solid 19/20s on the speed test on this site or is it abit random like mine?

If you are happy with the performance from your new modem then everything should be OK but just keep an eye on that Downstream Receive Power Level : -9.8 dBmV make sure it does not go any higher.
That is the latest model that Ambit so it will be on hardware version 1 as its the first version.

Re: Will I ever get more than 8-9meg on my 20meg connection?
When you say higher, do you mean to -10 or to -8?
My performance hasn't actually changed, so I'm as happy with it as I was before.

To the higher figure as in -10, sorry my fault and I know technically its not not going higher its just the way we refer to the power levels be it plus or minus.
As long as it is stable around that figure and you get no speed or disconnection issues then all is OK.

Re: Will I ever get more than 8-9meg on my 20meg connection?
Should speed tests be consistant? I can't get to tests anywhere near the same/ I can run 100 tests and get quite different results.
Here's one I got on IE7 with NIS turned off
Sat, 21 Jun 2008 09:17:05 UTC
Test 1: 1024K took 370 ms = 2767.6 KB/sec, approx 22805 Kbps, 22.27 Mbps
Test 2: 1024K took 431 ms = 2375.9 KB/sec, approx 19577 Kbps, 19.12 Mbps
Test 3: 1024K took 430 ms = 2381.4 KB/sec, approx 19623 Kbps, 19.16 Mbps
Test 4: 2048K took 922 ms = 2221.3 KB/sec, approx 18304 Kbps, 17.88 Mbps
Overall Average Speed = approx 20077 Kbps, 19.61 Mbps
These results appear to be quite fast - this page could possibly be in your browser cache. (obviously this speed was a shock to the PC as well as me)
Here's one momnets later with Firefox and NIS turned off.
Sat, 21 Jun 2008 09:19:38 GMT
Test 1: 1024K took 1053 ms = 972.5 KB/sec, approx 8013 Kbps, 7.83 Mbps
Test 2: 1024K took 1070 ms = 957 KB/sec, approx 7886 Kbps, 7.7 Mbps
Test 3: 1024K took 1158 ms = 884.3 KB/sec, approx 7287 Kbps, 7.12 Mbps
Test 4: 2048K took 2193 ms = 933.9 KB/sec, approx 7695 Kbps, 7.51 Mbps
Overall Average Speed = approx 7720 Kbps, 7.54 Mbps

Re: Will I ever get more than 8-9meg on my 20meg connection?
Try downloading 2 files from gamefiles.blueyonder.co.uk and see what transfer rate you get then plus I take by NIS you mean norton my suggestion is get rid of the bloatware

Re: Will I ever get more than 8-9meg on my 20meg connection?
Does this bit determine what connection you're on?
Quote:
|
Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 20480000
|
I just sorted out my brothers connection for him and his said something like 4096000 an his upload speed tests came out faster than mine (download was only about 330kb) after I'd swapped his dodgy usb cable for an ethernet cable. I'm sure he was on a 4meg connection.
