STM is meant to limit heavy users yet you can access the internet only once in a whole year and you will still be throttled if you go over the nightly cap by 1MB just once.
I would hardly say that is heavy use using the net 1 day in 365.

Anyway, to OP -100MB is too low to trigger STM.

Re: OMG! VM How can they

Don't forget all the other factors here that contribute to downloading like browsing and playing online games, it all adds up. For example ive not downloaded any files this evening but i have been browsing alot and the total amount downloaded through browsing is 150mb.

[quote=gothicdraconian;34548582]STM is meant to limit heavy usersQUOTE]The stm affects most people regardless what they download ect not only the top 3%/5% heavy users as virginmedia says its for. they roll out high speed internet but dont want you to use it and its going to get a lot worse as the stm times ARE going to be changed again this year .we will be saying when they roll out the 50 meg "hey guys i got 50meg broadband i am paying top price but im not allowed to use it" but we saying that now on the broadband packages we got perhaps we should stm our payments to virginmedia why should we pay for 20 meg ect and only get 5meg if you are lucky in the evenings when the pc hasnt be on all day ahhh that magic word pops up again "upto"

It is not STM then... You have probably just been affected by congestion.

If you think you have been STM'd when you have only downloaded 100MB then you should check your upload speed to see if that has been dropped also.

Re: OMG! VM How can they

I don't think so. I suggest that in fact he used greater than 800MB, upstream and downstream. It's really not hard to do. I just can't see how VM would actually change the STM to 100MB. I expect he has wireless and some neighbour is leeching off his network. Since he says he hasn't used it in ages, his neighbour had probably been using it for a while thinking "oooh look at this, an extra 4Mb 'cause the kid next door isn't even using it."
