Very Slow 20Mb Connection

Hi,

For the last two days my net has been awfully slow, especially when downloading.

I have checked the VM Status Page and there is apparently no problems where i live.

Here is a speed test and also my modems readings..

Wed, 07 May 2008 16:48:25 GMT

Test 1: 1024K took 1988 ms = 515.1 KB/sec, approx 4244 Kbps, 4.14 Mbps
Test 2: 1024K took 4927 ms = 207.8 KB/sec, approx 1712 Kbps, 1.67 Mbps
Test 3: 1024K took 5490 ms = 186.5 KB/sec, approx 1537 Kbps, 1.5 Mbps
Test 4: 2048K took 11022 ms = 185.8 KB/sec, approx 1531 Kbps, 1.5 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 2256 Kbps, 2.2 Mbps



I have also scanned my pc for adware, spyware, malware, viruses and nothing of any malicious code was found.

Your modem is working within the required parameters for a Virginmedia connection, the are no problems with the settings in that screenshot.

Try this link and download the TCP Optimzer.

To test your speed properly go to http://gamefiles.virginmedia.com/ go to demos and try to download 4 demos at the same time, around 500Mbs in size, wait a couple of minutes write down the 4 transfer rates and times them by 8 and you will have your download speed, if it is around 2.5 then you are downloading around 19Mbs.

Aye, i have already got my connection optimised with that tool..cheers tho.

I get about 2MB/sec with that url so my net seems okay with them. Just not so good with any other sites.

Have tried downloading the files from http://gamefiles.virginmedia.com/ it does give a more accurate indication of your speed.
