Red face Abysmal speeds in Dudley area

Hey.

I'm in Kingswinford, and come under the Dudley UBR. My reverse DNS is: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.cable.ubr06.dudl.blueyonder.co.uk.

I'm on the XL 20Mb service. Been with Virgin for just over a couple of years. Initially had the 4Mb service, then 10, now 20mb. Have had 20Mb since the day it was rolled out.

And I must say, I've always had excellent speeds. 90%+ of the speed I should be receiving, even in peak times. Occaisonly, If I have been downloading a lot (on 20Mb), my speeds have dropped to around 500KB/s, but this is clearly the capping in progress.. and as soon as 00:00 arrives, I'm back up to 2MB/s.

However... for the past couple of days, my speeds have been dreadful. Up and down like a yoyo.. currently (and this is the only thing I'm using bandwidth on), if I download a file from http://gamefiles.virginmedia.com/blueyondergames/demos, I max out at 19.1KB/s.

Browsing is dreadfully slow. I've restored the PC and tried it on a second PC, with no different results, and I've taken my router (D-Link DGL-4300) out of the equation by plugging the modem directly into the PC using Ethernet with no difference in speed.

Also.. looking at my Surfboard 5101E logs, they're full of errors, and the status page say's:
Quote:

The modem think's it's 1970.. here's an excerpt from my log:

And now for some signal read outs:

The Downstream Power Level reading is a snapshot taken at the time this page was requested. Please Reload/Refresh this Page for a new reading

Is anyone able to help?

Thanks... sorry for the long post
