That question is currently being discussed in this thread

That is *not* a static ip setup. There is ZERO chance that my home network is coming out from behind the hardware firewall to directly connect to the internet.
That's just an f'ing joke and it costs £40/month?

Re: Residential to Business braodband migration
I think you;re missing one important step....
Once the IP is allocated to the mac address you can then enter in all the details manually and not rely on DHCP... I use this method mainly as I also allocate an internal IP to the network card for ease of use especially when my PC is talking to items like my Sat reciever, Kiss player, Print servers.....
It also means that you don't need an external hardware firewall open for DHCP but instead you can restrict it down to external IP's and what ports you want.

Re: Residential to Business braodband migration
As far as I understod you dont have to be an actual company to get business broadband. I work from home a lot but am not a company - as far as they told me today it's fine for me to get ntl business.
Though Kymmy here suggested that wasn't the case?
Can anyone from VM Business comment?

Nope, I said that if you are a limited company they will want your reg#, and also people going for it have been asked to fill in company credit checks, but lots of people have got BBB for thier personal usage and if they do ask all you have to do is say that you;re a sole trader workign from home.

Re: Residential to Business braodband migration
Yup they confirmed that you don't have to be abusiness to me today. However how did you go about gettign multiple fixed IP addresses?
I've been told by their sales dept that when going for a fixed IP address option on the business service that you get only one.

Re: Residential to Business braodband migration
Strange, Normally they offer you 1 or 5...Just ask for 5 unless they're changing that to...
Once though the 5 have been set up you'll be able to see them in your admin panel and then using an autoreg method allocate each of them to a mac address.
What really does disappoint me is the fact that I can;t allocate more than one WAN IP per machine without putting in more cards as the IP's aren't subnetted like a normal static block.
But there is a way of putting in LAN and WAN IP's on the same card so at least you can firewall the WAN and leave the LAN open.
