Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer

Sounds great the high bandwidth users will jump at 50MB and get off the very Bandwidth that cant cope with them and that I’m on….its a win win.

Lets face it if your on the highest level and you want the Dog’s your going to move and that frees up bandwidth for us bargain basement users as it was put. I’d like to thank all those 20MB users who paid for this even when there service was nothing like 20mb.

Just got a note through my door this morning confirming the upgrade process will start end of the month, we're usually pretty early on in the upgrade cycle so finger's crossed.

When the Luton area gets upgraded, I too will drop from 20mb to 10mb -- until the 50mb is rolled out. The price difference between 10 and 20 is too much to justify staying on 20mb.

I know a lot of people complain about not getting 20mb, but I do get it most of the time (except Sundays) with the use of a good download-manager, I'll miss that, but live and have a few pounds in my pocket!

If you think otherwise, that the 120 is fit for purpose that's your privilege.I do know I spent 3 months complaining of the rubbish speeds prior to my modem being updated, and that the previous engineer told me there was nothing wrong with my modem--- which was very obviously not true.
As he hadn't even come in to look at it, I fail to see how he could have known anyway!

Iirc, the 120 is fairly incompatible with QAM256, perhaps your area has been "updated" to this standard, and this is what was causing the problem.

They'll still be on the same network though right? Out of curiosity, At what point in the topology will 50M traffic merge lanes with the rest?

I have STB too so I guess I'll be giving them a ring. My desktop's a fair distance away from the STB. Anyone know if it comes with decent lengths of cabling or will I be able to use my exisitng ethernet cable (cross-over I think?)
Where does it plug into?
Machine--> modem--> ? If it's that white box on the wall, will I need/get a splitter?

If its a cross-over one, it wont work unless you get an adaptor.

I was using a cross-over Ethernet cable from the cable Modem to my ethernet port & it worked perfectly, full 10Mb speeds 24/7

Well, I'll give it a go. I can use the adaptor if it doesn't work.
