Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer
What a load of rubbish VM are turning out to be. Just go tmy 10meg upgrade and jump on tonight and think 'this is slow'. Just tested and i have been capped. Now usually i would not mind as i do download a bit but the funny thing is i have done nothing in the last 2 days. In fact i have hardly used the net at all.
Is it possible that VM have upgraded but can't deliver what they promise?

Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer
Hi People,
I have just noticed that my area (Glasgow) has been marked as upgrade complete. I am currently on the large 4mb package and when I do a speed test I am still on the 4mb package. Should I be starting to see my speeds increase? I am not a heavy user so should not be capped or anything. Also my modem does not need upgraded according to VM. Should I contact VM and ask for help?
Thanks
Johnny

What a con this upgrade crap is. Broadband will be finished & warp drive starships will be roaming the galaxy before it arrives in Manchester.
I was promised 10 meg in January, if I upgraded to 4meg from 2 meg. 6 months later theres no sign of it on the horizon.
My connection is 2 meg at best most times, a waste of money upgrading.

I don't think it's a con. I think that's amazing considering I'm also on Xbox Live playing GTA4.

you know what SMG your absolutely right. I myself am in the Manchester area, but situated in Bolton. By the time they actually go through with the upgrade broadband will no longer exist.

What, internet through quantum tunnelling using tachyons - the page will come up before we type it?

We'd only have to think it for it to come up! That's how good it'll be.

Nah, it would come up before you thought of it.......
Which could be embarrassing if you mum/wife/kids were around.

If you check the "downstream bit rate" from the config pages of your modem, you'll see the speed that you are connecting to your UBR.
You'll find some tips in Annie's Broadband FAQ.

Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer
Those settings are your power levels, johnnymcd.
Have a hunt around the pages for something described as the bit rate or a number followed by "bits/sec"?
(It'll be 4096000 if you are still configured for 4Mb/s.)

You actually want the Operation config. page, looking like this:
Network Access : Allowed
Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 20480000
Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 768000
Maximum Upstream Channel Burst : 1600
Maximum Number of CPEs : 1
Modem Capability : Concatenation Enabled, Fragametation Enabled, PHS Disabled
If you're on 10Mbps the downstream data rate will be 10240000...
