Any other gamers having REALLY bad ping last 2 days ?

Homealone when you are playing a game and in a match and packet are dropped then you end up disconnected from server or hanging in air unable to do anything.. Last night my team mates said I reached an all time high over 1000ms this might be for a sec but in game this is vital. Cable connection used to be a steady ms not spiking up and down all the time not sure just what Viorgin have done but they have made their internet connection the worst I have ever experienced.

Talking to tech suport they seem helpless on bad pings they just dont understand, plus it isnt my equipment since many on Virgin are complaining over IRC aswell.

I used to get around 15-20ms on NTL when i was on a 10mb connection back when it first came out. Having anything higher than 30ms was rare on the servers i played on, just makes me wonder what Virgin are doing to the once excellent system. It seems to have gone completely downhill since i left.

Just checked pings on some different CoD4 servers, with various amounts of people on servers and ping seems normal at 1pm - 2.15pm. Will test again tonight to see if there is a noticeable difference.

Theres always a difference once it hits CAPPING hours .

Unless Im being capped, then there should be no difference, Im not signed up to a service that limits my pings when Im under the capping limit....but, it seems that my UBR has utilization problems (thanks to a post by Florence on the newsgroup, why they never told me that last week is a kind of concern to me).

if people are classing 100ms+ pings is totally useless, i doubt they'd have ever played on a US server even at uni when i was getting ~5ms to uk servers i was getting 100ms+ to the US

You seem to be falling into the trap that homealone is already snagged on.
I, and certainly all other gamers on here would class a ping of 100 to be useless to a UK server. That somebody can ping 100 to a West Coast US server is totally irrelevant. If you have followed these game related topics which I suspect you have then you will know packet loss is of far greater concern to us. If I normally ping 20 to a UK server and that suddenly jumps to 100+ it is a fairly good way of telling me that something is wrong with the network. I see players with the Uni connections and invariably they have the most kills, not because of a stupidly low ping, but because the quality of connection is rock solid. I play with people from all over Europe, as far as Russia, and they manage perfectly well with pings in the 70 - 80 region because of the quality of connection.
To say that my experience is perfect because I sometimes have a final hop of 16 ish is patently not the case.
Like I have said unless you actually play under those conditions then you will never have a clue how bad it is.

lol end of January, not in any hurry to fix the problem then. How long have you had the problem and I wonder how many people are affected by this.

If thye fix it by end of January I wil be happy if it drags on then that is another story. Tonight I was actually kicked from server even though it was set to not kick people.

Shame before all the merging that NTL removed so many staff that used to look after the network before it got this bad.

True Florence, the cable network was a lot better under Telewest & NTL. In the six years with Telewest I only ever had one major outage, which lasted a few weeks. I didn't even have to ask for compensation, as it was automatically given to me. Plus a few minor ones which lasted 1 or 2 days. Which you sort of didn't mind as UK tech support staff on `0845', told you what the problems where and gave an estimated fix times (which most of the time turned out to be true). On the whole Telewest provided me with an excellent internet connection and customer service. Which is more than what I can say for Virgin Media ATM.

I have noticed a trend happened tho. Come late afternoon, say around 4 o'clock my conection becomes even more erratic as regards latency and it stays like it until shortly after midnight. See attached charts. The 2nd one is a little later in the morning, but I was enjoying myself. It's not very offen I get a hour or so of goodish `fragtastic' network connection these days). Have any of you guys noticed the trend too?
