I am completely sick of this now. I haven't been able to play online games for weeks. Pings to UK servers regularly see triple figures.

I don't think this is going to be a quick fix. If I remember rightly I experienced the same issues when 10mb was rolled out.
I am just going to have to be patient as ADSL will be about as effective as a cat flap in an elephant house where I am.

I wouldn't waste my breath on waiting for a fix anybody, because if VM techs and staff have the same opinion as some here then we are all doomed for gaming.
It seems any network irregularity can be explained away simply as the server is ignoring packets....how handy for the disbelievers.
Bottom line is the network is borked, or being borked for a goodly part of the time.
It's not quite bad enough for me to switch but I know it could be so much more better.

I think you are missing a point, many people are posting traceroutes showing packets dropped at the VM tele-ic hops & quoting that as 'evidence' for their poor performance, when the final hops clearly show an optimal connection.
The fact is that the tele-ic routers are designed to drop non critical packets - if the final hop is ok in a traceroute, then the connection is ok, as I understand it???
Unfortunately many traces seem to be to the BBC, so the question of VM's peering with the US doesn't arise - and I suspect this may be more relevant to the problems some people are experiencing???

Re: Any other gamers having REALLY bad ping last 2 days ?
I had to play tonight and what a laugh with pings that touched the 800ms server had been set up to not kick ppl with high pings was really strange hanging is air and unable to do anything. Some Clans had big problems with most of the team on Virgin media the bad connection might have lost them a place ion the league next season.

All my chart pictures listed in this post are done over a four minute window and are round trip results. I use Ping Plotter with UDP packets (which most on-line games use) and its represents near as damn it what is happening in-game. I think it wouldn't be fair to run the game and Ping Plotter simultaneous, as it would just normally be one program running (the game) if there wasn't any problems.
