disconection issues

i have an issue tonight where my internet connection is dropping every 10-20 minutes, its driving me mad. I've had problems for the past few weeks most days i have to reset on average twice each day, but tonight its just bonkers,
the only way i can get reconnected is to reset the modem

i have 2 pcs running from a netgear wireless router, both pcs show the network connectivity icon in the task bar but i can not connect to the internet so i have to reset the modem and then all is well

I have connected both of the pcs direct to the modem to see if the problem was either of the pcs or the wireless router but the same thing happens - hence the only thing at fault is either the feed to the modem or the modem itself.

I've had the same modem since about 2002 when Telewest first installed the service to my home.

any ideas?

Re: disconection issues

Whilst i am not adverse to phoning 150 and i suspect i will tomorrow, i prefer to do some investigation first and some of the guys here tend to have better ideas, i have had bad experiences with customer service and prefer to go to the phone armed with pretty inconclusive facts- otherwise CS can waste time telling me to run tests i know to be waste of time

the modem is webstar dpx100

Re: disconection issues

just in case anyone else has the same issue - it was the modem on an incorrect frequency

broadband support is now at 0906 2121111 not on 150

Re: disconection issues

I have no real understanding of any of these technical issues but I have been getting similar problems. What do you mean by 'the modem was at an incorrect frequency'? and how do I even look at my modem? I am ok with my hardware up to my router but have no experience with anything beyond that.

Re: disconection issues

to be honest i'd recommend calling the phone number i gave in a prevous post.

My issue was resolved by going to http://192.168.100.0/gscan.htm

and then checking the start frequency

the correct frequency for me is 331000000 and then click the link to reset the modem - you may have to do this a couple of times for it to stick

I am now monitoring the situation, i haven't been disconnected once since i did this - however if it continues i have to call back and the next step would be a replacement modem.

Take your pc/laptop and connect direct to the modem (bypass wireless router etc) before doing any of this
