Best Speeds EVER!!
These are the best speeds I've ever had!!! i did have the lappy on a wireless g buffalo 125 wireless g router and could only get max of MB, being me i didn't believe the techs that came round and said that was the most i could ever get. so I've tried different settings and other things but nothing seemed to make any difference, then the other day i had a brain wave . i went out and bought a mini pci wireless 'N' MB card to fit into the laptop to replace the existing G card, still got same router (at the mo) but the speeds since fitting have shot up to MB+ hasn't dropped below that.
so maybe it is true that most people that have problems with there speeds there equipment isn't up to it?
since then i have bought a wireless N pci for my daughters computer and hers has gone upto the same speeds too. so i will soon be buying a wireless N router as soon as i can make my mind up which one i to get.

Re: Best Speeds EVER!!
hi,
alot of routers cannot support decent speeds with all the security turned on.
Glad you have seen an improvement !

That's it i KNOW that Cable is very very good when it works. I have had adsl and it was the pits. I don't want to move but i do think the time is close now to kick them in to touch and pay someone to do the job right.

Re: Best Speeds EVER!!
yeah sub 1 meg speeds on a 20meg tariff is really poor. have you tried talking to trading standards ? i would say they were breaking the trade descriptions act with service like that. If you receive those speeds on 20meg everyone else on your UBR must be experiencing similar issues so there must be others out there who are equally unhappy. do you know anyone else personally who suffers that issue too ?
I think its obvious your UBR needs to be split and re segmented to provide a better service !

I have taken this all the way to the top. I have a Manager who has been very helpful involved now and he has told me they are going to install a new type of card in the ubr to try and give some extra headroom. He hope's this will fix it in the short term and in the long term it needs a redesign of the area to split it in to 2 new areas there is that many users on it. I have student accommodation where i live and the council has just had another application for even more flats for the students. A total of 500 new flats in an area of just 2 km's. I just hope they are NOT going to install cable in those flats.
To add to the problems the main cabinet for my area was hit by a car the other day and pushed over. It did not cut the area off but the cabinet is now badly damaged. I just dont seem to have any good luck with my broadband.

unless there a thread of his that shows sub-1mb speeds over a period of time, getting 2.5mb on a 20mb line is (imo) within what the (advertised) contention ratio allows. that's how it is advertised and so trading standards shouldnt do anything. Of course you don't have to take the speeds they give you, and (imo) they don't *have* to provide more than the contention ratio is (eg 20mb of total bandwidth for 20x20mb users), so it's up to him to look elsewhere or take what they can give.
