Question regarding peak hours Trafic shapping?
Why do Virgin Media apply a 5 hour traffic shaping penatly from the time you hit 3GB. If I hit 3GB at 23:59, that means it would be 5 hours from that time. If it's simply to make sure others get a good speed "during peak hours", that rule doesn't make sense. Surely they would apply it only till 00:00 if they were doing it for that reason?

You cannot hit it at 23.59 as it stops at 21.30

Broadband Size: M
During peak times, the top 3% of downloaders on the Size: M package download at least 300MB of traffic each, with the top 3% of uploaders uploading at least 150MB of traffic each.
Any users hitting this amount during peak times (4pm till 9pm) will have their broadband speed temporarily traffic managed – their download speed will be set to 1Mb, with their upload speed set to 128Kb. This will last for 5 hours from when the traffic management policy is applied.
Even if a Broadband Size: M user has their speed temporarily traffic managed, they can still download over 2,500 music files per day.
Broadband Size: L
During peak times, the top 3% of downloaders on the Size: L package download at least 800MB of traffic each, with the top 3% of uploaders uploading at least 325MB of traffic each.

Re: Question regarding peak hours Trafic shapping?
the peak hours are now 4pm->9pm
i guess the reason it is a fixed penalty is because it hits everyone "fairly" and is there as a deterrant to prevent people only being shaped for shorts amount of time and 'ignoring' the shaping

Re: Question regarding peak hours Trafic shapping?
Nah, I'm paying for their suposed best service. 20mb down and 768k up. I pay £37 per month for it. I'm downgrading this connection to 2mb, as I'm moving in with my Girlfriend... and she's only 700 meters from an ADSL24+ enabled exchange. Which means I can get bethere.co.uk's best service with up 24mb download and 2.5mb upload for £35 including free wireless box and no traffic shaping at all. Can't wait.
