Can I Get Caught?
a friend of mine rents a house out and with this is a broadband feature with ntl/virgin,my friend does not have a pc/laptop so he never uses it!,so what i did was swap my old cable modem box model 250 for his one!,my broadband in my house has been disconnected for months btw, once i got my friends modem and connected it to the coxial cable, everything is working fine!,getting back to my old modem!,the sync light and ready light come on solid, and i can get into the modem!,network access says allowed etc....,but when i go to the event log,it says dhcp renewal failed!,which means no web pages,i can ping sites etc in dos no problem strangley enough but no web pages!,the thing that is concerning me is whenever say my friend moves out and a new tennent wants to use bb!,will the mac code on my old modem still be registered to my house address???,kinda freakin out by using this modem tbh
should i just forget it and give my friend the modem back?

Re: Can I Get Caught?
If you use a service you do not pay for you could be caught.... and you should not be discussing it in here.

Re: Can I Get Caught?
I'd stop now.. The modems are registered to the individual account, and virgin do check from time to time. ALso, you run the risk that if an engineer is working in your local street box, he may notice that you are using an unregistered connection and just disconnect it.

Re: Can I Get Caught?
You should probably ask you friend to ask the landlord if they can reduce the rent and *temporarily* stop the cable.
No point in paying for something that doesnt get used. Virgins idea customer

One word - Numpty!
There are loads of VM people frequenting this board. Maybe try asking in the Police Station next time, might be safer.

Re: Can I Get Caught?
i dont see the problem, the service being used is being paid for. Your friends landlord is paying for the broadband which you have moved to your house. Not exactly legit but at least the service your using is being paid for.
Your old modem will not work as there is no service being paid for that is tied to that modem

I'll let you ask his Landlord what he thinks about that then

Re: Can I Get Caught?
Its not like its getting used at both locations. Its a fair question to **ask** without people getting on their high horses.
Probably not the best forum to ask in though. Having said that the 'best' answer seems to be from a moderator, and the emotional answers from the users
Personally I'd like to see the landlord stop paying Virgin for something that is unused, but it may be part of a deal etc. It's against T&C, but I personally dont have any moral issues with it. *if the Landlord knew and didnt object - which is unlikely**
However if you did get caught then I suspect your friends landlord may not be too impressed, possibly putting their tenancy renewal at risk. Your call
