Traffic management - They lower the speed more than stated!

I have the 20mb XL service. They state here... http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html...t/traffic.html that they would lower the XL service to 5mb download and 256k upload if 3gb is exceeded. They are telling the truth about the download It has been lowered to 5mb, but the upload has been lowered to 128k/sec and that's testing on loads of servers. Another thing... this traffic shaping has lasted well past midnight, it's 00:40 at the moment and nothing has changed for me. I will be contacting them and demanding compensation for loss of service. If it's not fixed, next will be a formal complaint. If still not fixed... next is Ofcom and so on. Paying £37 a month for the best service and getting far from that. Since Rishard Branson took over.... this ISP has went down hill big time.

That link is the old STM policy.

The throttling lasts 5 hours from the time it is initiated, so even if you go over the limit at 20:59 you would be throttled until 2am. Upload speed should be 192 for you.

Buy shares in BeThere, they will be getting a lot of new customers very soon, the VM ship is listing badly.

Re: Traffic management - They lower the speed more than stated!

few things:

1. it doesn't state you the shaping will be removed at midnight, it states it will be 5 hours from when you were shaped
2. loss of service? you had a service and so no 'loss of' and so no compensation
3. branson never took over ntl, ntl paid the virgin group to use the virgin brand name

my advice:

get facts straight before making posts

The link the OP posted says midnight. Just unfortunate he's not found the newer policy really.
As usual though, this is being discussed elsewhere anyway.

I still have a service yes I agree, but not the service I originally signed up for. Go to the ispreview website and see for yourself the opinions of their users. They get a disgusting review. I used to love my Blueyonder connection, untill NTL bought over Telewest. Then as you said "ntl paid the virgin group to use the virgin brand name" in an atempt to hide their bad reputation. NTL were and still are, a bunch of penny pinchers. They advertised this so called great 20mb service, knowing fine well that the vast majority of people work during the day and if they want to use it to it's full they would be using it at Peak hours... where they can use Traffic Shaping. They suck, and I knew they would. The only thing that stoped me leaving them before, was the fact that I had to install a BT line. Well it's 100% worth it to me now. Only a few days ago I liked my connection... now they do this rubbish. Bye Bye Virgin Media

That's a fantastic idea. An ISP that can offer good speeds on DSL. (not to everyone though)... but to enough that would seriously increase their profits when people see the light and leave virgin media. Simple economics... Supply and demand, tells me to look into this. Thank you
