Strange problem since outage

Thought i'd start a new thread as hopefully i can get some better help and save butting in on others problems.

Ever since my modem came online after the outage it keeps periodically dying, however the sync and ready lights stay on. It happens roughly 4-5 times a day where i can be downloading, gaming, internet browsing then everything just stops. I then have to reboot my modem to get it working again.

Not sure if this can help anyone, but if i'm downloading via utorrent i'll get back to it in a few hours, see no u/s or d/s activity and be presented with a "hostname not found" error for the tracker.

Please help.

Re: Strange problem since outage

What modem do you have matey?
Also could you check the stats for your modem
http://192.168.100.1
username and pass should both be root.

The stats we need are Downstream power & downstream SNR.
And upstream power.

Re: Strange problem since outage

I have a 120. Strangely enough i've just got back and it's working fine for now, but the RDY light is slowly flashing. Surely it shouldn't be working if it's flashing? This is the first problem i've had in over 4 years.

Type : Ambit ETH/USB Combo Cable Modem
Downstream Receive Power Level : 0.64 dBmv
Downstream SNR : 32.19 dB
Upstream Transmit Power Level : 45.75 dBmv

Re: Strange problem since outage

Any idea what the flashing is about? Are they having problem at the UBR or something? What i still don't get is the torrent tracker error. Surely if my connection decided to hang for a while it would come back with a time out message, not hostname not found.

Could it be possible that this is causing my problems? I'm in ST6 though.

edit: RDY light has stopped flashing now. Just wondering how long it's going to be before it cuts out again.

Re: Strange problem since outage

Not to keep banging on and on, but i did a test last night. I left my PC on but doing nothing on the internet and it's still working fine in the morning. It seems like my connection dies when it's actually doing something.

Re: Strange problem since outage

I am experiencing the same issue has been happeing for the last 2 weeks or so (in Ashford TN23) I have to reboot the modem to get the net back no rhyme or reason to it it can be fine for 2 days and then do it 5 times in a hour.

Starting to really get on my nerves. "Support" (i use this term very loosely) don't won't too know because my CM is plugged into a linux box.

I pretended to plug it into an XP machine and the laughable steps the clearly well trained techician went through had me in stiches

I'm just hoping it goes away soon. A Replacment CM is on it's way to me but I have used a friends CM and the same issue occurs (the CM works fine in his area of Ashford). Looks like something is deffo borked in thier network somewhere.

Re: Strange problem since outage

That's not good news at all. I really hope it gets fixed soon. I don't want to be forced away from VM as my connection has been solid for over 4 years.

Is your connection being used heavily when it cuts out? Like i posted before, it seems to be ok if i'm not doing anything.

What is all that about?

Re: Strange problem since outage

Just another bump. I set something downloading last night in utorrent and it's dead again. Why are torrents killing my connection? The only thing i can think of is that it's something to do with uploading and downloading at the same time as other things that do the same kill my connection after a short while.

Are there any inside men who can take my details and ask around? Anybody know their names so i can send a private message or two.

Re: Strange problem since outage

I think you should look into getting your modem changed IIRC the 120's have had their day.

Re: Strange problem since outage

I know my modem is old, but considering this has only just started and i'm not the only one (above person said he tried a different modem with no fix) i believe this problem to be more network related. Couldn't harm ringing and asking for a new one i guess.

Re: Strange problem since outage

Well, i've been downloading from Usenet for a few hours with no problems and 10 minutes into web surfing at the same time and off it goes again.
