What a muppet
Virgin Media's chief technology officer Howard Watson said about the 50Mb trials.
"And gamers love it. You can shoot someone so much quicker at 50 megabits,"

Re: What a muppet
I seem to remember someone questioning whether the government could afford to cable the whole country,
Northern Rock has been given £57 Billion ... so far.

Still cannot see why millions of tax payers money should be thrown at a Private company like BT. They are a private company just like Sky and Virgin and should have to fund there own networks the same way. If money is given to BT for this then it should be given to all the company's involved. BT have dropped the ball and i dont see them catching up with cable for at least 10 years as far as high speed Broadband goes.

Re: What a muppet
I don't think anyone would suggest that the money to 'cable' the country be given to any existing firm. Some model like the gas networks, where a public/private partnership owns and maintains the physical network, and then various companies can sell you service down it. *That's* what I'd like to see, and would give rise to reasonable competition in the marketplace - cable companies not having the massive infrastructure debt like a millstone around their neck.

The goverment is missing something here. They put the infastructure in and then "rent" it back to these companies. they get their money back, we get high speed Tinternet.... just a thought

Re: What a muppet
I very much doubt that even if torrents and newsgroups went something else would be released and IRC is still very much alive and they cnt shut that down so ur comment is really untrue as torrents have been alive for a long time and newsgroups are not just for illegal downloading nor is torrents

Re: What a muppet
Apart from when you shoot him quicker, you loose because you get restricted because you've used your 'allowance' for the day :P
Also commenting on BT is wrong, BT have a solical obligation by law to provice voice lines to any persons in the country, they are what are called a last resort supplier. If this is the case then the government has to invest some into them to be able to keep within the law.
