I'm a bit bitter, as they insisted it was my end, so I duly broke out the laptop to hook it up to the modem direct (sited in the top shelf of a 42u server rack) and managed to snag the power lead to my laptop as the only RJ45 to hand is a real shortie managed to break the DC jack clean off so I could report the IP address they had handed out from a PC and not a router....DOH!
Shouldn't have fallen for it really , gutted.

I managed to get through to BB service status and they announced, after national service outages, that the PO4 and PO13 areas were also experiencing difficulties. I expect you'll be back up soon. At least in the interim you have internet access

Re: 17 December 07 - National Broadband Outage
Guys, this was a National Critical service outage, now as you can imagine everyone's modem and stb is trying to rush all at the same time to get on through the Queue. When a national fault occurs it takes at least 30 mins minimum for it to stabilise. VM have done really well gettin this back up and running so soon. Switching off your STB and CM and trying to fix your problem will only put you to the back of the Queue. The average time users modems are locking online after a reboot is 15 mins so sit and relax, it will eventually come back on, one after the other.

Why oh why did they not let me know this in the first place?
If its nationally and locally to boot and documented on their service status....

Re: 17 December 07 - National Broadband Outage
Im on Uddingston UBR, all that happened here was my modem went off at 9:20pm, was back up and running at 9:25pm.
No other problems.
(not a boasting post, just adding in more info to the general scope of things)

Re: 17 December 07 - National Broadband Outage
4 hour fix estimate seems a familiar number. Perhaps Virgin Media have gone over their daily bandwidth allowance and been capped by their supplier

Same here - I put it down to the intermittent disconnections we've been having.
Looking at the areas people are posting from it seems to be affecting ex-NTL areas rather than ex-TW areas (yeah I know, somebody probably already posted that but I kind of jumped on this thread half way through!)

You would be on the same UBR as me. Just guessing anyway.
Well my services have been off for 4 hours now and they still aren't up.
I will keep this quite polite and not swear (will save that for a CSA tomorrow) but its a complete and utter joke.

Telewest's network infrastructure is far more superior to NTL's, however NTL's network is probably 3 times bigger than Telewest's, so ex-NTL customers will take longer to come back online as the modems try to re-provision themselves.
I am on the ex-telewest network and can honestly say 'before NTL took it over it was reliable, soon as they took it over they made preference to cheaper labour with lack of knowledge than to a superior work force whom managed the network so effectively thus writing themselves out of a job'.

So the outage affected both ex-TW and ex-NTL but the ex-TW side recovered in five minutes while the ex-NTL area is still recovering 4 hours later?
3 times bigger or not, that clearly demonstrates what a steaming pile the ex-NTL network is compared to the ex-TW network!
