Re: Broadband down and technical support no answer, CS out of order??
Looks like plan 5 of how to save money kicked in accidently. plan 5 was to disconnect anyone using their connection.

Its still better than not long ago, when CS and tech support closed at 8 during the week, and 5PM saturday

If all the UBR's are down hence all the BB connections and the STB's are also playing up, then it would be quite A few people with problems, I think you are right you couldn't expect any more than a skeleton staff at this time of night
The good thing is that for the first time in 3 months I am gettting nearly 20mB from Baguley !!!

Re: 17 December 07 - National Broadband Outage
I just want to know what actually happened. The Virgin Media website says nothing detailed whatsoever. Surely something major happened? Perhaps a large scale DDoS?

i dont think they would want to advertise what has happened, until they have had time to investigate, what went wrong, and then take action to make sure it doesnt happen again.
The problem only happened 3 hours ago, when most of the people would have long gone home. I dont think you will get many definative answers for a while yet.

Patience and maybe news will be forthcoming. However it may take some time for things to be fully diagnosed, and the priority would be getting a fix. The whole idea of the status page is to advise customers if problems are known. VM have actually done that quite promptly this time round, and indeed you can see there are already a number of updates.

Oh, I'm far too excited I think I ought to go to sleep now. I hope the news does a story on this, it would be great if the news showed some interest in the goings on of the technical aspect of the world.

Re: 17 December 07 - National Broadband Outage
deed02392, sorry my description of location was a bit vague
Still flashing here (PO13), just over the water
I'm a bit bitter, as they insisted it was my end, so I duly broke out the laptop to hook it up to the modem direct (sited in the top shelf of a 42u server rack) and managed to snag the power lead to my laptop as the only RJ45 to hand is a real shortie managed to break the DC jack clean off so I could report the IP address they had handed out from a PC and not a router....DOH!
Shouldn't have fallen for it really , gutted.

If it affected someone in London, it will make the news
Twenty people could have drowned up North and the BB outage would still be the main news headline
