Re: National Broadband Outage
Once I realised it was pretty serious, and not coming back anytime soon, I put a dvd on, and then went to bed.

Re: National Broadband Outage
Broadband and V+ still out in Croydon (ex-Telewest) area. When I called at about 21.00 last night customer services didn't even know there was a problem!

Re: National Broadband Outage
Brundles with a business line you have a better SLA, a different call centre and people who speak proper english.. This would make it alot easier to understand what the problem was and a possible rough estimate of when the problem would be resolved. Then if you needed to, you could head off to work if it was going to take 7 hours to fix instead of sitting at home waiting.

There wasn't a problem at 21:00 - the national failure was at 21:20, and obviously CS would not be aware straight away.

SW19, Wimbledon is working again. Yay Speeds are fine as well. Shame, I was enjoying getting some use out of my back up BE Unlimited service. Oh well.

CS dont receive notifications until the fault is fixed usually, i expect to get an email about it sometime after christmas.
The ususal clue, is when the call queue jumps from 1 to 900 in about a minute.

Re: National Broadband Outage
I have to say I didn't know there was an outage until this morning, and having checked my modem it went off for three minutes at 21:20 last night, so it affected us here in ex-TW West London. Presumably I was doing something other than being on the internet though!

Re: National Broadband Outage
When I got home from work at 1830 my online light was flashing and broadband wasn't working, so there was an issue a long time before 2100

If its not then i apologise, if the service isnt within the sla then you should cancel. Have you had adsl before? so that you know what sort of speeds you are liekly to get?

Aye, I've had ADSL before and not had too much of an issue with it apart fae BT's service.
The servcie has been poor since being upgraded to 20mb per sec and after numerous technical enquireis it was found that the fault lay with the UBR and there was no quick fix for this. Retentions agreed and have agreed to cancel the account, on the premise I am not getting the services I paid for and signed up to.

Not all of us! It's like having the electric cut off, a bit exciting at first You get to do other things that you'd otherwise not do! I lost a few K last night as I work from home to the US market some nights but that's life. I really should learn more about this networking stuff. I have a back up service but it took me a couple of hours to try and set it up, I was completely lost Decided to go to bed and try in the morning. Got it set up in the end and bang, two minutes later and VM comes back on. Typical.

Re: National Broadband Outage
Exactly you beat me to the post! Outages on in internet should occur no more often then losing regular telephone landline or electric supply.
10 years ago yes the internet and infrastructure was new but now there is no excuse and likewise i work off the net. No service , no money.
Im down in Newton Abbot SW and lost service since 9.20 pm last night till about 40 min ago. Thats a 12 hour outage!!
BTW "I work as a Network Administrator and things sometimes do break and it does take time to fix things you cant just expect someone to be able to fix a problem stright away."
Thats rubbish. I lived in 3rd world country for a number of years and my ADSL only went off once for 3 hours after a hurricane and 4 tropical storms. If they can do it then the super Brits UK should never go off line for more then a few minutes for upgrades. In fact losing electricity was a far bigger problem except i had backup supplies.

Re: National Broadband Outage
Right, and this was England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. This was all unplanned as far as we know, at least you will most likely know whats wrong in a tropical storm something being fried or what not, and its most likely going to be in the path of the hurricane. This was a nationwide outtage and someone said the business support people said no one at VM had a clue what happened. If things shut themselves down and did a system wide reboot and possible factory restore you would have to reconfigure it. That would take some time, espically after work hours with a skelton staff on.
