Re: National Broadband Outage
Was on last night and at 9:31and it all went dead..... Damn just when I had 10gb of downloads lined up for an overnight run
Even 150 on the cablephone was dead and as I presume thier internal system runs on thier own network I presumed it was a national or major intercorp outage. I coud dial outside numbers fine.
Well I just went to be confident that it'd be back up in the morning and it is At least now I can sleep without thinking of a BB free xmas...

Dial 150 from your Virgin phone then option 4, option 2. My VIP is in the process of being cancelled with no early term fees. They have failed to provide me a constant up to 20mb servcie for the past few months due to a fault on the local UBR and as such are not supplying me the servcie that I am paying for. Hence why they allowed me to cancel no bother at all.

well my bb went off say 9.30pm and didn't come on till say 8am i think its stupid yet they expect the money for a service that you dont even get i have noticed over a few weeks that its been going down for say 10 to 20 min i know it isn't long but when your doing stuff and paying to have the service you dont expect to loose it while your doing it everytime i have rang i just get told to reset my bb box and will be fine yet i do that and still nothing grr
n hello cf first timer whoohoo lol
just been chatting to a mate of mine and he works for a server site and he said (apparently there was a switch failure last night, took out loads of stuff) so they were helping vm try and get everything back on

It will do as I work for O2 I can get the BB for £5 a month and no worries to get it sorted when it breaks. I didn't cancel because of this outage, I have cancelled due to the **** poor servcie thatVirgin Media supply. This was the straw that broke the camels back.

i hope you mean you had 0 service for that time, because even a 0.0001k speed is still within the "upto" description

Re: National Broadband Outage
I usually just read the forums, but due to the amount of crap people are saying ive acutally signed up to tell them to grow up. Things break, it happens. I work as a Network Administrator and things sometimes do break and it does take time to fix things you cant just expect someone to be able to fix a problem stright away. VM did an excellent job of getting the internet back up so quick, all the people that are saying "im going to adsl" etc etc, thats fine move! it means I will get my 20meg back to full speed as all the guys that are downloading constantly go to adsl. Please go ahead! but stop b!tching about VM, as they have done nothing wrong. If you have mission critical things at home then get a business line!

thats fine, i got the impression from your posts that, an outage was the reason that you were cancelling.
If its not then i apologise, if the service isnt within the sla then you should cancel. Have you had adsl before? so that you know what sort of speeds you are liekly to get?

Re: National Broadband Outage
I've seen a couple of other comments on here about getting a business line, but that seems to ignore the fact that business customers would have been hit by last nights outage too - and the recovery wouldn't have been any quicker.

true, but you would have recieved compensation if you could prove you have lost money because of the outage, and there is a seperate number, for tech support, which as there are less customers is less busy and would have been able to find out when it was likely to be fixed quicker.
For the average residential user its not really worth the extra money. But if you do use it for work, it could be worth it.
