Re: National Broadband Outage
Yikes, mine was off from 9:20pm to 5:50am (according to my CM log, it re-synced at that time, I noticed when it lost it), I wonder what caused it?

I've been an ntl/virgin customer on and off for the best part of 4 years, this was the longest outage I have experienced, I would have put it down to maintenance if it weren't the fact that the outage started before midnight, ah well, it'll be back for you soon, sit tight

Re: National Broadband Outage
My connection was off until the early hours (Manchester).
Just done a speed test...
Tue, 18 Dec 2007 07:35:26 GMT
Test 1: 1024K took 1172 ms = 873.7 KB/sec, approx 7199 Kbps, 7.03 Mbps
Test 2: 1024K took 125 ms = 8192 KB/sec, approx 67502 Kbps, 65.92 Mbps
Test 3: 1024K took 562 ms = 1822.1 KB/sec, approx 15014 Kbps, 14.66 Mbps
Test 4: 2048K took 7891 ms = 259.5 KB/sec, approx 2138 Kbps, 2.09 Mbps
Overall Average Speed = approx 22963 Kbps, 22.43 Mbps
These results appear to be quite fast - this page could possibly be in your browser cache.
I think that's the fastest i've had in yonks?

Re: National Broadband Outage
Hi guys, long time reader, first time poster.
I'm back up but at a reduced speed, 12KBs (Kilo bytes per second) yeah, you read that right, about twice the speed of dial up. Hope they sort it out soon cause I upgraded to 20meg last week.
Still im not complaining about VM, I have found them to be reliable for the most part. Early this year we had some work done in the front garden and the guy chopped the cable with his spade, NO PHONE NO BB. An engineer came round and fixed it a few days later and said we would not be charged, so no probs. Things JUST break now and then.
Im based in Nottingham NG4.

Re: National Broadband Outage
When mine went off last night I rang tech support. The guy said it wasn't a fault, it was a planned upgrade and should be working this morning
It is, as I'm posting. But he definately said it wasn't a fault....
Should I ask for my £1 back? (from the call?)

Re: National Broadband Outage
We had a problem in Winnersh (Reading RG5) from about 10pm. Noticed the light on the Samsung box flashing and then tried the Internet to find that dead. Both modem and STB were stuck looking for a TFTP server. Tried ringing 150 AND the 0800 status number but both were out as well until about 23:15 when they started working bit by bit each time we called (attempt 1 get engaged tone, attempt 2 get hold music, attempt 3 get welcome message then hold music and attempt 4 get greeting and menu). Got up this morning and everything has returned to normal. I certainly agree with the previous poster who said this is the longest/widest spread outage they've known. I've been with [insert today's cable company name here] since 2000 in both a Telewest region and now NTL region and I've never known something like this!

Maybe some radical terrorists have attacked the BB infra structure.

I was thinking more along the lines of "perhaps they were changing the hamster and it ran away..."

Re: National Broadband Outage
I can't believe you lot were panicking all last night, in the middle of the night because the internet was temporarily broken... I spent 20 minutes waiting/trying to fix it, then I went to bed. Have you got nothing better to do?
And those of you winging about compensation or whatever, that's life. A big network like VM's is bound to break at some point. They fixed it quickly. Get over it.

"They fixed it quickly"
You must experience time at a faster rate than the rest of us.
Anyways last night I was just about to order Microsoft Vista Ultimate, I had the mouse pointer hovering over the "Purchase" button and BAMB no more BB, so thanks VM you saved me some cash
