Re: 17 December 07 - National Broadband Outage

Mine went out for about 10 minutes around that time too. By the time I popped downstairs to grab some milk and toast, it had already fixed itself.

Seems like the whole country was down for a bit.

just use the 'Attach Files' below in the additional options section to attach it to your post.

its Nothing to do with 50Mbit trials area, what your seeing with that 33.2Mbit/s download, is the real max potential of the old euro-DOCSIS1.0 spec headend installed kit(and the Euro-DOCSIS2.0 NTL250 modem perhaps) when there is no artificial restrictions in place

it didnt last long for you, only until the BB chain had reloaded all the config files etc i bet).

if you had tryed to upload a 2meg+ file to your VM webspace or a web side (co-location)server that can take the generic Euro-DOCSIS1.0 upload speed, you may have also seen it reach 8Mbit+/s upload rates for the short time too.

as a side note, im in and on the baguley section and i didnt have any lost BB connection as such, i did however notice in the ntl250 log that they sent a TFTP and related gubbins at 00.55 , it most have been part of a total section/country wide hard reset perhaps.

you bring up a point though, did the readers here on the DOCSIS (pre-2.0B-)3.0 trial/pre-launch also see this loss of service at the same time?........

and if so, i dont supose you were doing a download/upload test at the time and can see the true potential of unrestricted docsis3.0 kit , just for reference of MAX real speeds OC as its clear it will have restrictions...

Virgin Media Broadband Outage Again?

Virgin Media customers across the board were plummeted into complete loss of broadband and digital broadcasts for the forth time this year. Virgin Media has experience four or five major outages in 2007. Customers tried to contact VM customer service but found the number to either be inoperable and/or out of service.

What does this mean for the millions of customers who where in the middle of some important work when they lost their connection...? Well actually none, being in the position where I've worked for more than one major (Blue Chip) ISP I agree you cannot foresee and/or predict any major outages which bound by the terms and conditions the ISP is not liable for loss of data due to an outage beyond their control.

Although, you can try customer service for compensation, I've done it in the past and have never been turned away. I mean were not talking much it could be a months free broadband service or half price packages on your digital. It's worth a try.

Oh and estimated time of fix...? was 7hrs

Merry Christmas to you all

Was down from 9pm till 6am here in nottingham, same for parts of lincoln and peterborough.

Some support centres went completely dead as well, and tv was off in a few areas.

While the outage was taking place, configs were not being recieved/config'd properly, so alot of people did have full out 32mbit/8mbit up, sure some of them enjoyed that, for the rest of us it was just pure hell with no net what so ever.

I, for one, am not pleased, lost over 1k tonight (as im working nights right now, and a very online business meeting was supposed to take place tonight) so im more than a little annoyed but that's life.
