freaky prob
im in northampton nn4 area on 20mb service
connection been a bit erratic today, gaming like running through treacle sometimes but usable, surfing a bit unpredictable as well.
after re booting modem/router a couple of times, thought i would run a speedtest from bbmax and speedtest.net, and this is were the freaky stuff begins.
both sites zipped through the download part np, with a seemingly respectable (for my area)13-15mb.
but
when it came to the "preparing upload test", nothing would happen, id give it up to a min then when i tried to go to any other site in my browser i couldnt connect.
shutting the browser and re opening it had no effect and i wouldnt be able to connect to any site for up to 5 mins.
then everything would be ok again.
i could surf away no problem but as soon as i did the speedtest from either site the same cycle would happen again.
3 times in a row i have tried this in the last 1/2 hour just ti check it wasn't a coincedence.
freaky or what ?

Re: freaky prob
How strange! So everytime you go to upload at a high speed, your internet just cuts off?

Re: freaky prob
I'm in NN10. I just tried speedtest.net and cannot reach it at all. I tried bbmax and it worked normally, I then tried another site and reached it without problems??
So, well don't know what to say except speedtest.net could just be down for some reason, otherwise all seems normal here.

Re: freaky prob
I've been having this for ages... access to some sites just freezes for a few minutes, even just changing a page. Other users on these sites see no problems.

Re: freaky prob
Virgin DNS servers? Try OpenDNS and see if that solves your problem.

Re: freaky prob
I'm having a similar problem too ever since my connection came back online from the outage. I can be happily browsing or downloading via utorrent then everything just stops and eventually times out and webpages become inaccessable. Sync & ready lights still on but nothing works. I have to keep rebooting my damn modem everytime it happens and as you can guess it's getting quite annoying if your downloading a 2gb file.
Any light on this?

Re: freaky prob
For now, get a download manager so your large file downloads don't become corrupted halfway through.
You've got quite an old modem... Why don't you call CS and see if you can get a newer one?

It's been running fine since i've had it until the outage. I seriously doubt the problem is with my modem.

I've been seeing something similar for quite a while now. A couple of the forums I use regularly will just freeze on me for no apparent reason. After a couple of minutes I can get access again.
I'm not using Virgin DNS and in fact my DNS lookup is fine. During the outage I can ping and traceroute successfully to these sites. It just seems that HTTP is somehow temporarily blocked.
Again, other non-virgin users report that the sites are still available.
