20MB - how is everyone else's doing?
When I changed over to 20MB the only way I could tell was by seeing the downstream etc. on the modem! I haven't noticed any real improvement at all.
I felt a bit cheated after talking to work colleagues who have ADSL broadband services and get similar if not better speed test results than me, yet pay less than a third of what I do for the service...
According to www.speedtest.net the best ISP in my area for speed is VM through their tests.
I've done the test loads of times and have had a low of about 1300kb/s and a peak of 13000kb/s. The low was this evening, the peak was at 2:49 one afternoon. Most evenings I get around 5000-8000kb/s.
Does that seem right?
When speaking to VM support they suggest it's due to using wireless and if I plugged directly into the modem I'd get the higher speed...
The highest speed anything has downloaded is 1.08MB/s.
Interested to know how everyone else is getting on with their 20mb...

Speedtest.net is less than useless. i've never got accurate results from that site. Try downloading a large file from here...
http://gamefiles.virginmedia.com/blueyondergames/
This should give you an indication of your true download speeds. when i grab anything from there i get about 1.65Mb,however i get the full 2Mb when grabbing stuff from virgins own news groups.
You might also want to give that a try too.

Re: 20MB - how is everyone else's doing?
Just tried downloading from that link and got a speed of between 700-800kb/s...
Is that slower than expected?
BTW - does anyone know if there are any settings you can change on the new small black modems? I used to use gscan.html on my old grey webstar but that doesn't work on the new one...
I want to make sure it's all set as it should be...

Re: 20MB - how is everyone else's doing?
I've not heard of gscan.html, what is this? It is to be expected that you receive that speed at this time of the night. Reliable service speeds may be found between midnight and 4pm.

You used to be able to change the downstream frequency and reboot the modem by going to http://192.168.100.1/gscan.html.

Lincoln? Slight side tracking here but I noticed on www.samknows.com that your exchanges there are Wireless enabled. I was quite intrigued, does that public wireless access from an exchange work very well?

Can you tell me where this test is? I can't find this one? It's linked from this site somewhere isn't it?
