Problems after modem change

Until recently I was on the 4Mbs service and generally got close to the rated speed. Last week I upgraded to 20Mbs but was only getting about 6Mbs on tests. After researching on the web I realised my modem (an old 3Com CMX that I've had for years) isn't up to the job, so I called VM and they sent a new one, which is a small black thing, model number E08C007. I called tech support to register it, but now I am getting 2Mbs at best, i.e. less than half what I got on the 4Mbs service!! I called tech support again and they did some tests but couldn't find any problem so they're sending an engineer next week. Nothing has changed except the modem, so I guess that is the problem but now I'm worried it might be just as bad if I switched back to the old modem. Anyone got any ideas?!

Yes. Be cool, give the engineer a chance to come and sort things out and he will .

Update:

Have fixed it myself, just by re-installing my router, which I'd taken out to avoid potential problems! No idea why this has worked but now getting 16Mbps on a Sunday afternoon which I'm not complaining about

Re: Problems after modem change

This isn't a pop at you mate.
You can see now why TSC ask to remove any 3rd party hardware, before doing any trouble shooting.

Re: Problems after modem change

I think you misunderstood - I HAD removed the router when installing the new modem, so as to avoid any confounding factors, but download speeds were terrible. It was only after I reinstalled it that everything worked properly.
