No where left to go (slow connection)

Well i've been on to tech support email and not had any form of response other than a month back when i complained of the same problem, their response was that i had a virus... Turns out my local area was oversubscribed which seems to have been fixed.

Recently in the last 2 week i've started getting a really bad connection again, i've been on to tech support (by phone, really bad call centre) who claim its a problem with my end and as i cant get past the first line of support nothing's being done other than me wasting my money phoning them.

So i'm posting here, adding to the many other 'slow connection topics' which maybe i should be joining i'm not sure but i thought it would be ok to make a fresh one where someone maybe able to help me.

Here's a few tracert's (taken out the private / identifiable ip's i think)

I'm on a 4mb line.

It's been the same for the last 2 week.. Browsing speeds are very slow, gaming (i play world of warcraft, COD4) is just not do able with this kind of connection...

I can live with the speed but the quality of the line is beyond a joke.

A strange thing i've noticed though, if i only connect / trace to people in my local area or within 20 or so miles the line is fantastic, it's still slow but the connection quality is perfect.

I guess this is a problem with something down south, broken router or server i dont know, there nothing mentioned on the support (live service) pages and tech support have been trying to convince me it's an issue with me. So i'm at a loss..

If anyone can elaborate on this then i would be greatful, if not thanks for taking the time to read this.

EDIT - chose google and bbc as they're the sites the support ask me to ping

Try asking for help by posting in the newsgroup
virginmedia.support.broadband.cable
You stand a much better chance of getting a meaningful reply than phoning India and it's free.

Re: No where left to go (slow connection)

Cheers for the reply mick I'll try that next time i have issues....

However I think I was lucky this time in that I got a reasonable reply from an email I sent to VM customer support some time back that hit's on the results I posted above.

Removed names for obvious reasons.

"Hi Mr X
KANA EMAIL REF: XXXXXXX

Thanks for getting in touch with the Virgin Media Support team. We currently have an issue with customers in Yorkshire routing through bbc-gw0-linx.prt0.rbsov.bbc.co.uk. This is showing as hop 10 on your traceroute. This is being investigated but, unfortunately, we do not have a resolution time as yet. If there's anything else we can help with, please let us know. Kind regards,

<Persons name removed>
Econtact Support Team
Virgin Media
KANA EMAIL REF:XXXXXXX"

I hope this will help anyone who's having the same problems.
