XL Broadband for £25 a month

I spoke to my friend last night & he said he got a mate to phone up customer services last Friday to see what they could offer him & he was offered 20mb for only £25 a month. I asked him how he got that & he said that they told cs they have looked around at other isp's & want to know if virgin could offer them something. He was on 2mb for £18 & has been with virgin for a year. So today I thought I would phone up & see if I could be offered anything like 20mb for £25, I'm currently on 4mb paying £25 & have been with ntl/virgin for nearly 5 years now. I spoke to 3 people in total, being passed on each time. Each person saying they could only offer me a better deal if I took out a tv & phoneline with them, but my parent don't currently want to do that. The second person offered a phone line & 20mb for £39. The last person I spoke to said he would look into it & he said the best that he could do was 20mb for £29 or I could keep my 4mb connection, but have a price reduction of just £17 for the next 6 months. I chose the reduction for now & also asked if I could find out how my friend was offered the 20mb for £25 on it's own could I phone back to get the same offer & he said it would be worth trying. Has anyone else got something like this from virgin? Just wondering at how many people have phoned up & been successful in being offered 20mb connection for a lot cheaper than the listed price?

Re: XL Broadband for £25 a month

i called up to try and get a better deal as i was just on 4meg BB for full price.
they said no chance and i called up about 5 times.
i then called up and added basic tv and the full super duper phone + upgraded to the XL BB package for £2 less than i paid for 4meg BB

Tell them you want to disconect and move to the competitor, they will put your through to retentions and you should get a better deal.

I personally refuse to pay £37 a month for a service where I'm getting 6MB (off peak only) 1MB Peak. If they hadn't of put the price down for me I would of left by now. I live very close to my exchange and Bethere 24MB ADSL is a real option for me. I don't mind paying £37 if I'm gettinng 20MB at least some of the time.

I was thinking about doing that, but the problem is if they say ok then, go elsewhere & disconnect me I don't really have anywhere else to go, so I would be buggered really. I would like to move to bethere, but they are not live in my area yet, even though there was plan to go ahead in the summer, but when I emailed them asking when it would now happen, they said they don't think it will be anytime soon. My dad did say he may now like to get the phoneline with them, so when he decides on that I will phone them up again, but for now I'm happy with £17, would have liked 20mb, but after reading many posts on here about the problems people have had, I think I have for now made the better choice & if 4mb is actually going to be upgraded to 10mb soon, then I will be happy.

Oh no, not another thread turned into 'mines is bigger than yours' or, in this case, 'mines is smaller than yours'.

Yes it is - but my point is that you and gwendess have turned it into another 'compare packages' thread.

Re: XL Broadband for £25 a month

I personally think that VM's slogan on one of their vans really sums up their broadband service ...it reads

'Forward, back, back a bit more, Stop'

that about sums up what happened after they took over from NTL - vm suck, i've already dumped the TV service, come January they can shove their BB too. unless they can offer me a sweet deal, like the speed they advertise at any price.
