can someone explain to me what a ping is ?
hope i am in the right forum with this question if not my apoligies,i am in no way computer literate but i am curious  i have seen a lot of talk on the forum about pings,could someone enlighten me as to what they mean  i done a speed test on speedtest.net i live in belfast and my nearest point to run the test is dublin 100 miles away the result of the test was download 3783 upload 336 ping 72 i am on 4 meg and i would really like to know what ping means,thanks.

Ping is the thing thats usually a stupidly high number when using VM's 20 meg service.

A ping is (in a simple term), basically a network's way of seeing whether your still and how well, connected. It's also a stupid trade name for a golf accessory producer.
