Post utilisation problem on ubr

I got in contact with virgin media broadband tech support about my really slow downloads speeds on 20Mb broadband. The tech said that there is a utilisation issue with the ubr that I am connected to and that the issue has been raised to check the ubr. However what does utilisation issue mean? I suppose the only bright side is the upload speed is very close to 768Kbps!

Is anybody else getting slow 20Mb downloads speeds in the B21 area?

Re: utilisation problem on ubr

I imagine it's something to do with the fact that the network is oversubscribed, and so there isn't enough bandwidth for everyone.

Re: utilisation problem on ubr

Im on Preston UBR 4 which a TV agent looked up for me (out of courtesy as not BB trained)

Mine has 'High TX Load' - which explains my poor performance at all times of the day (even at 4am).

Its commonly known that the network is oversubscribed is some areas - with no eta of fixes for them either - I'm just waiting until my contract ends and getting out.

50Mb? Cant even provide a 20Mb service

It means too many people are using the connection, and as a result not enough bandwidth there for everyone to use. only thing you can do is sleep in the day and use your connection in the early hours of the morning when there's a possibility that the others are in bed. only problem with that is that others are doing the same thing. in that case find out which areas they haven't over sold the connection to and move to that area

Thanks for your replies. Looks like I will have to downgrade since I only get
4Mb of the 20Mb that I am paying for or move house!

If you downgrade you'll only get 1Mb of the 4Mb you're paying for.
