It didn't just affect 1and1. The problem therefore wasn't 1and1's.

Re: 1and1 Internet hosting/ Virgin Media

Today I am unable to access 1and1 websites (both by own and a friend's which is on another server) from my VM broadband.

A tracert shows ok to bre-bb-b-ae0-0.inet.ntl.com [213.105.174.226]

This is also preventing me from sending email as a tracert to their email server [212.227.15.179] dips out at the same ntl router.

Can someone explain to me why an individual router problem in VMs network can stop me from accessing 1and1 services in Germany - shouldn't these routers have alternate routing choices?

Please let me know if you can see http://tinyurl.com/6r2c94

Vm have fixed it now thanks anyway.

I'd still be interested to know why their routers don't alternate route when there's a problem.

I'm starting to wonder if this is a recurrance of last year because I'm having difficulty getting some sites up like the World of warcraft Europe site which was hit before. Pages are just timing out completely. It's been pretty patchy for the last two weeks now. There is nothing on Virgins site to indicate a problem but something is going on somewhere.

Yahoo.co.uk is also coming up problem loading the page.. yet the bbc is fine.
