packet loss

I seem to have been up till now one of the lucky ones with a 20mb connection in the Leeds area that works as advertised. Until now that its.

I have been running trace routes to various addresses including bbc.co.uk and keep getting spikes of packet loss up to 80%, lasting from a few minutes to 10-20 minutes. This loss appears to be on the first hop of the trace at the 10.***.**.* address which I think is my modem (is that correct?). This is making it imposable to do even simple web surfing as I keep getting page not found errors let alone do any gaming etc.
Any help confirmation about whether it is the modem address or something else, would be appreciated before I put myself at the mercy of customer support.

Thanks

Here you go. Managed to talk wife through doing it for me .Typically it was working fine when I got it.
When it starts up again I will post up with error messages.
But for info the packet loss starts at hop 2 and is there for all subsequent hops

thanks

Re: packet loss

Here is a ping plot that I have had running all day. You can see that there where large periods of time this morning that there was 75% packet loss. This has settled down to short spikes of 10-20% which are getting more frequent as the night goes on. This is enough to stop streaming video and make online game imposable.

Re: packet loss

Tell me about it, I've just come off gaming on 2142, it's utter w4nk. Yet I have 19 meg conn atm. I am in a foul mood.
We can post traces all we like, but at the end of the day it's not going to change significantly any time soon.
Yeah I would try some other isp, but I am too legged in with VM.

Re: packet loss

Looks like there is a problem affecting the Leeds area in general. But after a wasted 30min call to customer services I am no closer to getting a fix, all they wanted to do was send someone out to check my connection. They don’t seem to understand that it is a network fault. There seems to be no one to send this type of fault to who will look into it.
